Hi guys, I'm just now coming over here from the Uly part of the forum; just picked up an 09 CR out of the local HD dealers rental program. Here's my problem, no manual could be found & HD has taken the Buell manuals off line; the suspension settings (according to the rental guy) were optimized to feel like it was a Harley!!! Ouch, it handles like a drunk sailor on shore leave... actually scared me on the way home. Does anyone here have ballpark settings for someone 220lbs (geared up) that can get me started. |

FYI... these bikes are quite sensitive with suspension set up. Find someone who knows and get it set up properly. It will make a huge difference in how the bike performs even when compared to the settings in the book. (Message edited by kinder on March 19, 2011) |

I'm 215 geared up, and have been fooling with my suspension a fair amount over 5000 miles. These settings are working nicely for me- Forks- 1 3/4 turns in from full soft on preload.....3 turns out from closed on compression (screw at bottom of fork)....rebound (top screw) 1 1/2 turns from closed. Shock- full soft on preload....compression (top screw) 20 clicks from closed....rebound (bottom) 1 turn. I've got a nice controlled ride now. Use the whole rear tire, get 32 mpg average and I live in an area with lots of twistys. I'm sure I'd firm everything up for a track day, these are street settings. And I know they are far off the book suggestions. But I am told I'm smarter than I look. |

Have to try Duc setting, by the book I feel I need to weight an extra 100 pounds as its just too hard on the street. |

They're set a little on the stiff side for spirited riding, but for track duty (for me anyway) it was pretty good. I have the settings wrote down now for track use and backed them off some for street. |

Thanks to all. I am now in the right ballpark, though still in the cheap seats. Over the next few days I should get it dialed in. The local HD dealership set it up with max preload up front and zeroed in the back. Try it sometime if you want some excitement. |

Duh, what's the 1st thing you check out with handling issues? Oh yea, tire pressure. Well, that's now addressed. I can't believe they were renting this bike out with this suspension setup and tire pressure, AND NO ONE COMPLAINED! |

Here's my next newbie question: When engaging 1st gear in the morning or when the bike has sat for awhile, I hear a "skronk" sort of noise from the tranny (I think) and it feels as if clutch plates are momentarily sticking. It only does this once and then all is well. Is this one of those, "they all do that" kind of things or am I looking at possible problems? |

Typical for a wet clutch. Worse if oil is over-filled even slightly. Try blipping the throttle to elevate engine speed and sling excess lube from the clutch plates before engaging into gear. Pull in clutch lever, blip throttle, and engage the gear as the engine settles to near idle. |

Check oil level and reduce to proper range if over-filled. |

Don't adjust more than 1/4 turn unless you are way off. It's easy to go past your optimal setting and never know it. You will notice a 1/8 turn or even less once you are real close. One adjustment at a time, ride, repeat. |

^^^... and make written notes of the changes in settings and a description of the noticeable change in handling |
