I've read patch from the inside, some say plug only if it is temporary, 3100 miles on the tire. What do you think. |

Plug will get you home. Plug patch will fix it till it wears out. (it is a patch with a plug built on it you install from the inside.) They work and lets face it we ride on two wheels if it goes flat a 60 mph + it won't be pretty. |

If you got 3000 miles out of a rear you're most likely due for new soon anyway. Go new. You'll have to pull the wheel and tire anyway. It'll be easier on your mind. |

Duphuckincati has a point, by the time you pull the wheel, pop the tire, fix the tire from the inside and reinstall you will be doing it again in 3,000 miles at best. Just replace it and wait 6,000 miles depending on how you ride. |

plug it. Just did one, it was fine. I wouldn't plug a front, but rears are no big deal imo |

Plug it and keep an eye on it. It won't "catastrophically fail", it'll leak down slowly (if it does fail). It's a rear, not a front. I've had numerous rears go flat, at speed. "Hmm...why won't it turn in?" is about the only "horror" of a rear tire going flat. The handling gets slimy, but it's easy enough to find a shoulder before you lose the bead.
![](http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290431/621987.jpg) That was midnight, lost the rear at about 85 on the highway. Got most of the way down an offramp before the bead popped off the rim, then it got REAL wobbly. Pulled in a parking lot, got off, laid it on the saddlebag on purpose so I could get to the hole, plugged it, reset the bead since there was no bike-weight on the tire, inflated it, and got a room. It was late. I was tired and it had been a looong riding weekend (I was on my way home to MD from Buelltoberfest when it happened). |

I have plugged several times and had no problems. I tend to get rather high mileage on my tires, in other words I don't race. If you are not pushing the limits you probably won't have any problems plugging. |

I've had a rear tire go flat at 60mph, it was no big deal. I would plug it, but at 3100 miles, you might as well order a new tire. How much tread is left? |

The canisters are the "operators tubes" people on the Uly forum talk about. They're from a farm tractor, used to hold owners manuals. My left one holds a first aid kit, matches, flashlight and spare wheel bearings; my right one holds an MSR one-liter fuel bottle (reserve-reserve tank, lol). I had the stickers custom-made and as you can see, they're reflective. ANYthing for visibility ![: )](http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/clipart/happy.gif) |

The operators tubes can also mount up higher nicely, so they don't dangle down like that. I did it with zip ties that I will have to cut to get into the tubes, but more zip ties are in the tubes. Harder to access, but more out of the way, and less likely to be casually messed with on the bike (can barely see them when the bags are still locked in place). Back on topic, at 3k miles I'd have a hard time making the call... I'd probably pull the rear, put on a new one, then patch the old one from the inside, and leave it hanging on the garage wall for a rainy day, and make sure my address is in the BRAN list so somebody might use the tire. |
