OK. I've taken some pictures for comparison purposes. Some of the items I know are not original, but other stuff...not so much. Shall we begin? Marzocchi forks and logos that are on my bike. I must admit, every other picture I've seen, the logo is red. I added the tape to give sizing reference.  Here's a separate logo on the left fork that isn't quite clear. Pardon the lousy photo, but if needed I can retake it in better lighting:  Here's pictures of the shock on the bike. Absolutely NO identifying marks. No number, words, stampings...NOTHING!! I looked everywhere. Nada.   The muffler and a shot of the end cap and discs. It isn't excessively loud as-is, but if each one of those edges is a disk, I have a lot of disks. I'll try disassembling to verify for myself unless someone enlightens me and saves me the effort.   Here's the air cleaner, as mounted for the Mikuni HS40mm carb that's on it. I have the original carb, but not the original air cleaner.  A shot of the chrome chain guard. I have the original(?) black one, too.  The original owner replaced the Gambler rear caliper with a Brembo unit. I still have the Gambler:  He also replaced the original HD gages with Buell gages at some point, along with adding clip-ons. I have the original handlebars, but not the gages. Is that dash original as far as indicator lights, etc.? I trust the Pegasus is an add-on.  In 1996 the original owner purchased the rear frame and bodywork to make it an RSS. He also ordered the aluminum pegs on the order form, so I have to believe the chrome-capped pegs were for the RS, aluminum for RSS...or maybe not! The bike was re-painted a pearl white with gold lettering, but paint on the tail is bubbling a bit and the body doesn't fit really well...for now!  For reference, here's pictures of the air cleaner bracket from my '92. It has an S&S carb and intake on it. I am NOT sure if this was the mount from the factory, but it has some field welding done on it, and will need some repairs;  The wonderful thing about digital cameras is you never run out of film, so if someone wants other photos, let me know, I'm here to help! And by all means if anyone can identify or explain items, I'm also here to learn! (Probably more the latter than former.) | ||

No need to disassemble the muffler . . I've got a good supply of discs, bolts, end caps and so forth in the bottom of my tool box . . I'll snap some photos. | ||

I understand the original owner modified it, but I'm not sure to what extent...other than the gages. There's not many pictures of the cluster. The A.C.T. hardware was removed before I got it, but I still have it.  | ||

The Sportster light gauge insert has been removed and replaced with the lights and the Pegasus has been added. The triple clamps are some sort of aftermarket as well. . . of so it appears. Be mindful both my memory and eyes are old.  | ||

Pictures just taken of my instrument panel. Original apart from the handy Hank fitted trip reset knob! It's hard to get it in a picture with the screen on but the dash is not just a flat plate at all. Above the close up of the idiot lights the dash panel goes towards the fairing.    | ||

Steeleagles top triple clamp is the same as mine, I just poked my pudgy finger up and under the ACT plate and I can feel the Marzocchi symbol underneath. I can see four "plugs" in your clamp filling the holes where the ACT system bolted on. Regards Gavin | ||

Supertrapp parts... each disc has raised bits where the 6 holes go through they create space between them. More discs more space and more noise.  | ||

That is a stock dash . . with the exception of the relocated reset knob. That's almost unfair relocating the knob . . Always had to have a wife or friend with a hand small enough to reach up in there prior to a trip. Perfect photo of the SuperTrap kit . . complete with the bag o' bolts and the small tube of copper-coat anti-seize. Well done. . . this thread is the most fun I've had in a long time. | ||

Interesting. So...my dash has either been very cleverly modified, or completely changed out. There are no "extra" holes that I've noticed (so far) for 4 lamps across the top, but I'll dig deeper tomorrow. My '92 has the updated HD indicator lamp and bezel, with the 5 lamps (L & R indicators separate):  Note the hole for the reset knob that is dangling behind the panel! (Much work to do with that one!) Re; Plans: Since neither of my bikes was "original" as far as drivetrain or appearance (color anyway), I had planned to get them both back to stock "appearing" bodywork, with one RS and the other an RS in RSS clothing. Now it gets blurry, but hang with me: When I was a lot younger, Jim Hall and his Chaparral race cars were always held in high esteem by me. His cars were innovative and leading-edge technology, and many of his designs were adopted by everyone else or outlawed! I've since developed the same opinion of Erik Buell and his designs in my limited time being exposed to his works. So, to make a short story long, I was going to make them both white, and they'd be fraternal twins. Kinda "Chaparral Buells". Sounds hokey, I know!! But I'm hopelessly addicted to both. Anyway, these plans may take a slight curve, depending on if my pursuits of a particular '91 RSS pan out. By the end of the month I'll either be making more room, or be VERY unhappy!! Sounds like a fine plan to do them both white. The 1990 RS came in white and RSS came in white pearl anyway. You got the '91 bike with the flames and broken crank ha?? Regards Gavin  | ||

Sooooo just thinking out loud... you could take the tail off the 92 and fit it to the 90, paint it white and it's close to an original bike and stick the RSS back end on the 92 and do it white/pearl and have that one close to an original look also?? Regards Gavin | ||

Actually, I have the original RS tail for the '90, already painted pearl white by the original owner. The bike originally was blue. But yes, flip-flopping tails is a viable option for me. The '92 is also a factory RS. | ||

Gavin, Congrats on the bike, and thanks for starting this interesting thread. I own RS #13, 1991 kit bike. I had the same fuel issue as you. Also developed a gas tank weep, and coated tank. My SuperTrapp came with 12 disks - I think, have to look. This is a pic of the AC backing plate on my bike.  | ||

Thanks for joining in! Please post some pics of your bike. This thread should be called "RS owners and builders get together to compare notes!" That cover is the same on I have with my bike but mine was drilled by an owner I think. If you know any other RS owners please let them know about the thread as the more information we can get out their and recorded the better. Regards Gavin | ||

The air cleaner ought to be factory HD, either stock Sportster or the screaming eagle one. That pic looks like the stock sporty back. Hmm, now I'm feeling like (finally) rebuilding the carb in my '91. Anyone find Gambler parts yet? | ||

My '91 came with the stock XL air cleaner, angled with the piece shown above. It has a Super E on it now, I think I put it on in the winter of '93. It didn't just bolt on, either. After replacing the Gambler brake caliper years ago, I put a four piston PM on the rear. I have a brand new muffler in my garage, Gavin. I bought it after I smashed mine at the Brag Deal's Gap adventure. I'll dig it out and count the plates on it. Dave: My '92 would seem to confirm that the SE was used, but this is a previous picture of the cover only. Other pix I've seen of the RS's don't necessarily have the SE cover, so mine might be an oddball/modification.  I'll get shots of the backing plate that came with the bike as I received it. No guarantee it came from the factory that way, however and wasn't modified when the previous ower went to the S&S carb/intake system, but... | ||

That insert was like $15 from the dealer and I think they sold more of those than the $200 Screaming Eagle kit. Full disclosure: My first bike was a 92 Sporty, my second bike was a 96 Sporty. | ||

Good point: For $15 you could have an SE! It would be nice if we got chain of custody documents with our bikes so we knew what came from whom and when! I have minimal paper trails right now, most specifically for my '92. | ||
