If the clear coating has been damaged on the wheels, I wonder if the wheel can be stripped and recoated, bringing back a newish or newer appearance. Has anyone tried this?

I don't think that they are clear coated, maybe on the XB series but not on the Blast......but maybe it was too long ago....

I made parts of my wheels last year the victim of over aggressive cleaning, and now they have some spots and lost sparkle. I'm wondering if there is a refinishing technique out there.

The Little Kid is in the same dilema tonight, I just took off the old bad tire and he is going to start polishing. I gave him some scotch bright but I don't know if he used it. You start with big scratches, working your way down with finer and finer steel wool making the scratches smaller and smaller and your last pass is wheel polish.

I wonder if there is are Dremel attachments to speed up the work?

Your method will work on the polish parts. Is there anything to brighten up the rough portions of the wheel?

I see on Youtube there are tons of metal polishing videos.

to polish up the rough parts would become a monumental undertaking, just use flat black....

i think this will work to polish the wheels: Mother's metal polish and their cone shaped drill attachment for the shiny parts, and an electric toothbrush with a few extra heads for the rough parts.

having experience with buffing aluminum myself which is what I think were talking about here.. its gonna take alot more that a toothbrush and some mothers polish to get everything shiny... if your wheels are as bad as mine. the bast way to go about this is to paint the center spokes whatever color you want them to be and then have a machinist take off the corrosion on the lip.. then either clear coat them or polish them often

I'm pretty sure they are clear coated, but regardless there are many attachments available for your Dremel, electric hand drill or bench grinder to make cleaning things up easier.
The rough stuff can be polished, but smoothing it out is a different story.
The outside of the rims, if clear coating is not present can be buffed up fairly easily with a bench grinder, polishing wheel and polishing stick (rouge, tripoli, etc. I have some, but dont exactly remember their names-if in doubt check a jewelry/jewelers supply place).
Painting sounds like the least labor intensive option.

Mothers is great as is "semichrome'.

Always keeping them clean is the best option. Sycho has 20k+ on his Blast and his wheels look like new.

PS If they are clear coated, it must be stripped off for any success at polishing.
