So I was rinding on on of my favorite roads here in beautiful North Carolina and I went to pass a car that was driving way to slow for my speed demon 1125r. As soon as I was in the passing lane my front end got real loose and went into a mild tank slapper. I let of the throttle slowly and stayed off the breaks and the bike settled down to allow me to continue my pass. It scared the hell out of me. Made me wish I had a steering damper. But with tight finances Those are out of the question for right now. I have been riding for about 5 years now ( minus a year deployment to Afghanistan and 3 months from a bike accident resulting in broken ribs and collar bone) and I have never had to deal with a tank slapper. I have read and heard all the stories about them, just didn't think It would happen to me. Does anyone with tank slapper experience have any tips to avoid these deadly slappers? |

I got a couple when I first got my CR... after plating with the suspension a bit and getting used to the bike I never got one again but as soon as GPR offered the damper for my bike I bought it. Makes me feel much safer! |

when you throttle it the rear sinks down and the front comes up, it gets light. My S1 did it all the time until I got the suspension figured out. CR hasn't happened yet with 2x double nickle. Add rear preload to keep weight on the front end! |

Think this is more of the front just getting a bit light, happens to me alot when out road riding, I just power through and fir future reference font hold the bars to tight, let it to it's thing. |

+1 to Avalaugh my CR gets the front wheel up a little bit every time I go hard a little on acceleration usually adjust the rear preload as before mentioned more preload. The best thing to do is get a GPR dampner they are the cheapest and work well, when finances allow till then adjust preload stay over the front on hard accel if your able. |

Tony... call me. I have a fix for this that doesn't involve spending money. |

Getforce.Don't hold out on usI usually don't have any problems on smooth pavement but I had a couple of good ones on rough pavement when the front came back down around 90 MPH or so.A click of pre load in the rear and a litle less throttle worked until I got an Ohlins steering damper from Erik Buell Racing.I only run it at #5 but that seems to be enough to keep things under control.Especially since I got my Erik Buell Racing ECM.What a differancs! |

It's nothing really special. I was going to walk him through adjusting his suspension and go over some "rider input errors" that I have learned from other experienced riders. I don't think he needs a steering dampener. Some riders do, Tony doesn't. I know him very well. |
