Author Message   Nein_collins Posted on Monday, March 14, 2011 - 11:48 pm:        Hey guys, when I got my X1M the previous owner had really not taken care of it, I think it spent a lot of time outside and hadn't been thoroughly cleaned in forever. Anyway I've washed it, scrubbed the wheels like crazy and turned the tires brown, you name it..lol. I stopped by advance auto today and picked up some meguires motorcycle metal polish, tried it on a small area of both rims( major spring clean is coming when my supertrapp arrives) and it brought back a good amount of shine...but there is still brake dust stuck on there...any suggestions? I had thought of powdercoating the wheels black, but i'd sure like em to be shiny more. thanks in advance.. Gray   Desertfox Posted on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 - 12:46 am:        If it has the PM wheels, like my bike, Mothers aluminum polish will brighten it to a mirror finish. As for brake dust... I wouldn't try anything abrasive, but I'm sure brake cleaning chemicals are safe. Aluminum is pretty tough. If you have powdercoated wheels... then I have no idea. I think brake dust actually burns itself into the powdercoat.   Preybird1 Posted on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 - 11:06 am:        I would try some eagle one wadding polish. Get it at orielly auto parts for $5.99. It removes rust and other hard to remove stuff. I have been using it for 10+ years on all my bikes cars and trucks.   Xl1200r Posted on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 - 01:34 pm:        I had better luck with Mother's metal polish over the Eagle One wadding polish (also called Nevr-Dull). My PM wheels were in pretty bad shape and I was able to get rid of most of the crud.   Nein_collins Posted on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 - 03:25 pm:        thanks for the advice, my wheels are the regular 3 spokers with a rough cast finish center with the polished outer. I plan to attack them pretty hard on friday, when I get my spring cleaning done on the bike and get my penske shock in and on i'll post some pictures
