I did my homework as you did and after a few months decided on the RT-3. We just need eric to release the ecm for it. They seem to be having trouble keeping their word on the release.

HMF = Factory made, great quality, hard to get support (tried calling several times etc without much success). Also has an E-B-R tune available.

KEDA = Hand made, good quality (according to Exhaust shootout - haven't seen one personally) super support (he's very active on Badweb and will answer questions very quickly). Unfortunately, no E-B-R tune available (yet).

Later!

My question is do you need the ECM for the rt3? Idk I'm torn. It's a expensive decision so I wanna make the right one.

... you forgot the customization part. (Slash cut tips, turn outs, etc.)

I am a big fan of both KEDA and Drummer stuff. I think Kevin and Dean make quality built products and have great customer support. At the end of the day, get what you think will keep you happy in the long run.

Definitely get the ecm, regardless of the pipe you buy. Plan on spending the $$, its only $250. If I lose a sale because of the costs associated with getting both, I would rather see you end up with a good running bike. Support ebr first, what I make is secondary to their business. If they aren't around, then I won't have much of a market for what I do.

After having a stock modified and HMF exhaust, this is far far superior. I will be testing this exhaust soon on a dyno using a DRUMMER E.B.R ECM

The ECM is a must have! As far as I know, when ever you purchase an exhaust (regardless of what type) the bike has to be able to adjust the the fuel requirements. So, like Dean said, get the ecm first then get the exhaust (or get them both at the same time). Personally, I have the ecm and KEDA RT2 combo and really enjoy the hell out of them together. The ECM will really smooth out the bike and provide some power increases while the exhaust will provide even more HP and provide you with a great sound that others will hear and hopefully not run you off of the roadway.

I've got the ECM for my HMF.
Makes a world of difference in overall engine performance.

Buy the Keda, get the the race tune, buy the HMF, get the matched one...

I understand the ECM and why to get it. What all outside the ECM is needed? Such as programming?or do you just plug it in and go? I have never dealt with this before. I'm leaning to hmf.

Plug it in, do the TPS reset procedure, and go ride.

I've "actually" used both the HMF and the Barker.

The Barker is much nicer on several fronts, including power AND sound.

At idle...sorta similar in sound, but above about 2000, the Barker sounds better.

The Barker build quality is nicer also...along with the price...!

Mike

P.s. - What the h*ll is the TPS reset for...?
That's only if you mess with the ECM.

You do a TPS reset when you change from the stock ecm to a race ecm or to an exhaust specific ecm.

From my understanding, when ever you change the ecm (which you will need to do when ever you change to a different exhaust) you need to do a TPS reset.

Oh, and to answer you question Buelldr, when/if you purchase the ecm, you will only need to plug it in and do the TPS reset. There is no programming or anything else involved.

The difference between the top 4 pipes and the rest is 5 hp or more unless you look at the bottom one, then it's 9 hp. Compared to stock, a 13% gain in power is a pretty good boost. At 8000 rpm, mine makes more than 20 hp over stock, but you'd have to actually read the shootout results to see it. Yeah, I'm in it for the power.

The top 4 pipes (3 really since I entered 2 of them) all have one thing in common. They don't use a 2" midpipe. After that, it's just personal preference on what it looks like. Bang for the buck, yeah, the Barker pipe will take it for the least amount of $$. Mine fall in the middle for cost but make as much or more power than any other.

Using Erik Buell Racing's standard race calibration will get you the same numbers as posted above. It's been proven on several dyno's, including Erik Buell Racing's. No, I don't ride a dyno to work and realistically, I normally don't need all that power, but it's nice knowing it's there if I do. Whenever the actual calibration gets finalized for what I make, it could turn out to be even more.

As stated previously, the only other big difference between what I make and the rest is that I do try to customize each one. It takes me a while to get them finished, but each and every one is hand crafted. They're not perfect, but they definitely function as described.

One last note, I do not know what the performance numbers are for the HMF. I can only speculate, based on pictures of them. I could be wildly off base on my assumptions and calculations. From what I can tell, it's got a 2" midpipe and outlet. That gets into the whole "velocity vs. volume" argument and I've got my own theories on that one. If I'm wrong, someone please post up the actual OD or ID of the tubing used.

As far as the TPS reset goes, I'd only do it if you have problems. If it's in the instructions to do so from Erik Buell Racing, then by all means, do it.

At the Dynojet facility in Vegas, using a HMF and power commander, they gave me multiple dyno sheets that showed 136-138whp....

Of course me being the skeptic, i then took the bike to another dyno shop where i had my baseline runs completed... original was 123ish and final was 129whp... with Dynojets tune and the HMF...

Either way it makes power, Once tuned...

Without a tune though, it will throw a CEL...

My HMF is loud though.... its defintely not for the faint a heart..

Erik Buell Racing is working on the tune, the bike is supposed to be on the dyno with an RT-3 on it. No idea on when it will get done, but if it's not available, use the standard race cal. Tell them what you have, they will set you up.

Yes, that was an RT-3 in the video. It's the first time I've actually seen one set off alarms like that.

No question, between the two, the RT-3. I've heard the HMF and much prefer the RT series. Plus the customer service is second-to-none!

The E B R Race ECM "generic" load is the best mod I've made so far and allows the bike to run the way it should.

I have the dyno chart from Erik Buell Racing using the HMF exhaust. They made me promise not to distribute it, but I can tell you the RHWP is 139 at 10100 RPM and top torque is 76 at 8600 rpm.
