Mine came on the spur of the moment. When I was trying to set up an ATC account it wouldn't let me use my first try (which I have forgotten). I just wanted to get on so being from Iowa it just came to mind.

Now if we can just get you guys to pose by your bike and let someone else take the picture we can put a face with the name.

Biker names are kinda funny...The best ones are anointed upon you by your "friends"...After all, they are the ones who know you best...I chose "Racerboy" because that is what I an NOT!...My "friends" anointed me with "Mother" and I guess that's because I am...It's funny because when we're scuba diving we all call my better half, Shirley, "Mother Hen" because she takes care of us and tries to make sure we're all safe back in the nest...After leading a Pollini Moto pocket bike through "The Dragon" at night with a gaggle of others following and with my ST1300 PIAA 910's blazing the ST quickly became "The Mother Ship"...In our group we have a G'Dave (Aussie), Idle (left his R1100GS warming up in the garage last winter and warped the jugs), T˛ (his name is Tom T), Leftturniccus (always runs off the road in left turns), you get the idea...

See Ya!

M2me

Mine is just a spur of the moment thing too. My real name is John and because that's so common I didn't want to use that. I wanted to come up with something clever and I thought "M2me" would work. My bike is an M2 (obviously) so it's like, "It's an M2 to me". OK, maybe I was just drunk at the time!

A lot of interesting stories here. I never knew what "Reepicheep" meant, for example. Actually, I still don't. I guess I will have to read some C.S. Lewis if I want to find out.

When I started teaching I invented a cartoon character to peck at (or encourage) my students' brains while they were taking tests.

Prof Stack took on a life of his own. Some of my older friends still call me Prof.

Interesting thread, btw. Thanks.

The DMV asked the same thing on my license plate application. Like I told them :"it means 1". Here on the Menominee Indian Reservation we have our own WI plates . So when I had a chance to move from plate # 199 to #1, I applied. As it works out it is also a clever number to have on the back of my S3T/ Buell/Harley.

Fuscat

Back when I first got on the internet about '95 I was 15 and trying like hell to get a username that would work to create my first online account. (aol *shudder*) After about 40 minutes of trying every single thing I could think of, I still couldn't come up with a name that it would take. Being the cat lover I am my cat was trying to be all up on me and the desk and keyboard and crying and carrying on since I wasn't paying him any attention. I commented on him being quite the fussy kitty. So I shortened it and tried Fuscat and it took it! In all honesty I was kind of in a smart ass mood by that point and didn't really think it would but here I am, I have just always used it as my internet presence ever since..

Rocketman

When I was about 20 there was a shop in England specializing in Tridents. The shop owner advertised in MCN often and I liked his personalised adverts in which week after week he would write a short story then sign off as Trident Willy from Worthing.

About the same time a local guy from my town had customised an old Ariel Leader into a futuristic looking 'Star Wars' bike by slotting onto it a funky looking plastic body. This bike was featured in Superbike magazine. At the time I didn't know the guy nor the Streetfreaks custom club he was a member of, had never heard of any of them, yet Superbike had stated in their article that the guy, his club and his bike were well know in the motorcycling fraternity in my town. This lead me to put pen to paper to set the record straight because even at such a tender age I knew a lot of bike folks in my town from Hells Angels to Mods on their Lambrettas yet I'd never heard of the guy, his club nor his bike. I signed the letter Rocket Willy Pepper honouring Trident Willy and his penned wit I suppose. It got published a couple of months later. I didn't know it at the time but was flicking through the magazine at a local news stand when I saw my published letter so I showed it there and then to Karen, a lovely (where is she now) girl who's company I was in. She couldn't stop laughing when she read my name. Over here WILLY is something to impress the girls with if it goes like a rocket LOL. She knew mine to well and what a rake I was. She told everyone about my published letter, and my rocket willy!!!! So I guess over the years it stuck except the 'Willy' bit got dropped (not literally it still works fine thanks girls) in favour of simply Rocket.

My Triumph chop used to have a sticker on its rear end 'Beware of Rocket Blasts' and friends to this day still call me Rocket. Apparently has something to do with the way I ride bikes but it started out as a joke with regards to riding something else!!!! When I found Badweb 'Rocket in England' seemed appropriate of course. Recently I sign as Rocket because everyone knows I'm from the wrong side of the tra....sorry, pond, and I do like that smokin devil fella too even though I don't smoke so hence I now sign off as.....

Rocket

At the time, we had only like Blake and Aaron. In fact, I didn't even choose mine...Blake sent me an e-mail with a username and password when he was starting the board. He told me to change the password, I suppose I should.

The man who taught me that information is useless if not shared, called me Glitch Beast (I was having a hard time with my new 8086), one day a friend heard him. I was insulted, so of course it stuck. After a while it shortened to Glitch. There are some that only know me as that...

Sparky

5 of us Harley riders were on our way to Harley's 90th Anniversary from California. Around Santa Fe, New Mexico one guy's headlight went out. I volunteered to fix it having brought a multimeter & an assortment of tools.

It was 11 pm and we were tired, having been on the road all day. The guy wouldn't take off his luggage so I could disconnect the battery, so you can see where this is heading, right?... I had the headlight bypassed with an extra wire and, while attaching the lead to the softail's console switch, the screwdriver slipped, sparking the rest of the lighting/accessory circuit to ground. Oh well, at least it started and got him to Outpost HD where they discovered several corroded contacts (and one burned out one) in multipin connectors behind the headlight. My buds dubbed me Sparky over that and it's stuck ever since.

The naming convention is a good read for sure. Mine, BigDaddy, is what my kids have called me for years and years. I don't know what started it, but it stuck. My son still calls me BigDaddy while he's tossing me around like a sack of groceries ;)
