I just installed my hmf and it seems way to close to the swing arm. If i push on the exhaust it does hit. What is the best way to move it away a bit? Take it apart and bent the bracket out?

My HMF is close, just not quite that close. I've got maybe 5mm play before it touches the swing arm. Don't forget, with load on the shock (i.e. rider weight, acceleration or turns), it will compress, thereby moving the swing arm up and away from the can. |

Mine's the same way, however, there's plenty of clearance when I sit on the bike. No problems. |

I didn't like it either, so I just moved the spacers around a little, put a small bend in the bracket...all is good. Then I replaced it with a Barker system. Problems with its fitup too...! Mike |

Don't forget that even though the bike is partially unloaded without the rider, it can become less or even fully unloaded over the crest of a hill and close that gap. |

I don't think any of the ones I've done have ever come that close to the swingarm. I can see it hitting if the suspension gets unloaded pretty hard from cresting a hill. Definitely try bending the bracket some for a little more clearance. |

Mine was that close also, just loosen everything, even the header tube clamps and have a buddy push down on the exhaust while you tighten everything back up. Unfortunately i caught mine a bit late and got a scratch on the swing arm... Luckily its hard to see.. |

Just one of the reasons I got rid of mine, the poor fitment, sounded good but after a while the AF's will be messed up with the stock ECM, get a Erik Buell Racing ECM sooner rather than later |

Albert - Interesting comment... Since the holes in the header flange are larger thAn the fastener diameter... There is plenty of room for the header to be moved/twisted. By the time that small movement gets to the other end of the open header tube....the open end can move over .25", in most all directions...! This...as you might surmise, can throw the BEST constructed collector off...! While this wasn't the case with my HMF...it WAS the case with the Barker collector. Loosening just the front didn't move things enough, and I wasn't about to go thru the work it takes to loosen and retighten the rear header.. While I do like things to be right...this was WAY too much effort for the almost unnoticable final outcome. Mike |

I think the main reason the stock pipe has slotted holes is just for that reason. There's more than 1/2" of adjustment available front to rear on the stock pipe. I ran into this twice and had to modify my design back in July last year to allow for it. I know the outlet placement between one bike to the next can vary. |
