I didn't know where to post this question . I'm looking at a 2003 blast under 560 miles and all the turn signals are broken.

I can't find evidence of road rash on the turn signals, could vibration have caused this? I suspect a bad boot.

The turn signals are broken? Literally cracked or smashed? If they're physically damaged, I wouldn't bother with it.

Do they simply not work? If they just don't work properly, throw a fuss about it to get the price down and then buy it and fix it. Easy easy work.
Usually when all the signals stop working, it's just the flasher relay. When my flasher relay went out, I was able to find the break in the circuit and just solder it back together.

The rubber stalks are all broken, I can see the wires running through them

I'm just ttying to figure out what happened is this from abuse or from vibration ....It idles really high during warm up, could this be a cause?

IMHO:If they are OEM turn signals no amount of vibration would cause them to break.

Probably tipped over. Most of my turn signal stalks are broken and fixed with electrical tape and popsicle stickes (I can hear the jokes already). I bought the bike from Rider's Edge with two stalks broken, the wind blew it over and broke one and I dumped it being stupid and broke the other. They also break if you throw your leg up and over to be cool and miss.

Please don't ask.

If the bike runs well and is pretty much unscathed on all the plastic, it should be good.

There is a minor scrape on the front of the fly screen, but something that stands out is a scrape underneath the tank cover on the left side on the plastic, looks like this bike may have slid on asphalt, is this area a typical contact point?

Yes. Not that I have fallen off mine but mine came to me having been dropped at c20 MPH. The turn signals had been replaced but the tank cover, visible molded portion of the tank (I think this is what you are referring to), flyscreen & left peg bracket all showed signs of wear that was asphalt related.
The Blast is very durable so don't worry too much. As long as the footpeg bracket isn't bent into the engine casing it shouldn't be a problem. YMMV.

Thanks.. .There seems to be a black plastic piece underneath the molded tank cover, that runs parallel along the bottom edge of the cover which is abraded . My guess is the molded tank cover was replaced but not the plastic piece under neath which still shows the abrasion.....

That plastic piece is part of the fuel tank. I would say that you are spot on in your assessment.

Aloha Xenox,

Welcome over to the Thumper side. The pics of your other Buell are sick. Just wanted to pass along that you can get replacement turn signals (LED kine) pretty cheap on eBay...but then I saw these pics of your bike and I bet you already know this!

The high idle might be a symptom of the Blast's most notorious flaw...the weak rubber manifold intake "boot" (as you suggest). Mine idles like mad if the boot clamps aren't tightened down well. They also develop cracks and hairline cracks ya can't see.
On the other hand, even when they are running properly, they are kinda loud/rough at idle. (Use Youtube to get a feel of "normal" - that's what I had to do).

I'm not the guy to ask about all this, but thought I'd pass along the little I know. Search this forum for much more knowledgeable posts. The folks on this forum could not be any more helpful.

I paid $17 for a stock turn signal stalk. I wouldn't let that it's been dropped a couple of times turn you off.

I did the popsicle stick (very thin carbon plate) and electricians tape trick, almost like new .

I think my '05 had electrical tape holding the rear signals for the last 20,000 miles it was on the road. Only had to retape it once. Unless you were too close for your own good, never could tell it was black tape. So far the '09 has not had any issues with the signals, although I would like to replace them with the LED's if I ever get the motivation to do it.
