Thinking of a new bike ... (keeping the Uly) ... Yamaha Super Tenere or BMW R 1200GS or Ducati Multistrada 1200 S ... Any suggestions? ... I know many of you own one or the other ... Thanks ... |

I would get a Beemer myself. Tried and proven for dependability, quality, etc. |

How about one of the new Triumph Tiger 800's? Certainly worth a look. |

Personally, I'd go with the Super Tenere. Not that I have anything against the other two, but the Duc really isn't an adventure bike. You'll be stuck with the same performance joys and true adventure limitations you have with the Uly. The Beemer is really a no-brainer for the reasons stated by Zane_t, but they're a bit over rated and too common for my tastes. I think the Super Tenere will give the Beemer a run for it's money and it's narrower profile will make it a better single-tracker in my opinion. But primarily, I just want to see a bigger variety of ADV bikes on US roads, so I'd break the GS trend and go for the Yami. But that's just me. |

+ the Super Tenere. If you're thinking of BMW as a proven reliable ride, well, spend some time on a few BMW forums...good grief! John |

Given your inventory of riding material, I think you should consider some serious hooliganism in the form of a KTM or Husqvarna SM. You can also get a set of extra "dirt wheels" for some more serious off-roading. |

If shredding an occasional fire road is one's idea of adventure riding, a SM might be a fun ride, but it's still no adventure bike. I haven't seen a super moto yet that will yield even 150 miles from a tank. That's a bit shy for an adventure ride in my book. There are stretches on many roads I travel that the average SM would not make it from one gas station to the next. (Message edited by Hangetsu on March 06, 2011) |

If you haven't yet, do yourself a favor and go test ride a Multistrada. That bike is incredible, power of an 1125 and the comfort/ergonomics of a Uly. I've rode a 1200GS and (like the V-Strom) they are about as exciting as a can opener. Really though, it comes down to what you want to use it for.... I use the front wheel size as the rule of thumb for the manufacturer's target usage. If it's more for dirt, look for something with a bigger front wheel (BMW, KTM, etc.) or if it is on road look to a smaller front wheel (Uly, Multi, etc.). |

I am liking the 2011 APRILIA Dorsoduro 1200, pricey..I guess the 750 would be ok too. |

Super Tenere and KTMs are calling my name, someday, first because they look a little strange (why I like the Uly), are rare, and don't cost as much as the Ducati and BMW. What's a bit of a bummer is that there aren't many KTM dealers around...I would really have to travel to test ride one or find a mechanic who knows them. And I don't do orange. I've still never seen a KTM Adventure in person. If anyone gets a test ride on the Tenere or KTM, how about a summary? Are they more fun than your average bike? |

Really though, it comes down to what you want to use it for.... I use the front wheel size as the rule of thumb for the manufacturer's target usage. That's a cool thing about the new Triumph Tiger 800's: they have a more street oriented model with a 19" front wheel, cast wheels front and rear, and a slightly shorter suspension, and a dirt-oriented model wiht a 21" front wheel, wire wheels front and rear, and a taller suspension. |

I'd love to give one of the new 800's a ride and see for myself . The Triumph/Duc/KTM/Aprilla dealer here in Tallahassee is a nazi about test rides though; even though I bought my Bonnie from him. I had to ride 3 1/2 hours to Daytona to test ride a Multistrada, the local dealer is 4 miles from my house. Guess who will get my business when/if I can afford one. I really like the big Tiger also. When I saw a KTM adventure in person it looked strange to me. The front just screams for a beak or something to fill that gap under the headlight....same thing for the Super10. |

If you want something more dirt-worthy than the Uly then the KTM is the way to go. All the others are more street oriented and aren't much of an improvement over the Uly. |

ALL GOOD IDEAS ... LOOKING FOR ONE WITH GOOD DEALER NETWORK BEING THAT I DO NOT DO REPAIRS MYSELF (EXCEPT WHEN STUCK) ... MORE ON PAVEMENT, LOCAL DIRT ROADS, CROSS BRONX POT HOLES, ETC NO DAKAR STUFF ... STARTING TO WORRY ABOUT ULY PARTS AND REPAIRS AND EVER SINCE I BOUGHT ONE THE VROD HAS BEEN COLLECTING DUST ... |

The Yamaha dealer network will beat anything else you're looking at, although I'd lay odds very few dealers will even know what a Super Tenere is. |

I rode Yamaha's from 72 to 85. 7 different bikes. (Some were dirt bikes) I rode the crap out of them and I never had a failure. They were the most bullet proof machines I've experienced. I wouldn't have any problem going that direction again since they're making something I would be interested in. My Buell would have to be impossible to repair for me to jump ship but if it did happen that's where I would probably go. |

If I already had a Uly for riding dirt roads, I'd be looking at something like a Speed Triple. |
