We're planning a ride to Deals Gap N.C. in June, and are staying at Deals Gap the majority of the time. We have two days we would like to stay near Franklin or Highlands. We're gonna ride that area for a couple of days. Does anyone have any recommendations for a good cheap biker resort in that area. Thanks in advance |

Highlands = high $$$. Franklin is a nice little town, but I'm not sure there are any motorcycle-specific places to stay there. Check www.tailofthedragon.com . They may have some suggestions on their site. BTW- 28 between Deal's Gap and Franklin, and actually on south to Wallahalla, SC is one of the best roads in the area. |

Thanks for the info. I have been reading about 28, Moonshiner run. Looks sweet! |

Franklin has the Franklin Motel, which has been home to the Big Jim Ride for a number of years. Good place to stay, not real expensive and there is some great riding in the area and home to some of the best people I've met. Hit up JB2, he can give you the rest of the story and whom to get in touch with there. Prior |

+1 on the franklin motel. Nice basic lodging, nice and cheap. They are very motorcycle friendly, to the point where they walked out with towels one dewy morning and offered them for wiping down seats before the ride. And 28 is a GREAT road. The only downside is a lot of blind corners, and more driveways than some other roads. Not a big deal, just don't be stupid. |

That's all I need to hear. I'm there. Just to make sure, is this the correct location? http://www.thefranklinmotel.com/ |

I like Franklin.... I normally stay just south of town about 4 miles on the right. small Motel clean and low cost. I need to plan another trip and head out to the Natural mines for some ruby and sapphire digging. many super good twisty roads locally there in multiple directions. plus no Tenn cops lol http://www.carolinamotel.com/index.html http://www.franklin-chamber.com/whattodo/cycling.php (Message edited by xoptimizedrsx on March 03, 2011) |

I have been staying here a lot. Mostly just camp but they also have cabins and such. Also serve breakfast and dinner. Great place. http://ironhorsenc.com/ |

check out HW64 out of Franklin. Its shorter than the dragon but Just as good IMO. Plus not cop field like the dragon is. Hw 28 is good as well but more cops and larger trucks. I have relatives in that area so they gave me the inside scoop. Right after a rain watch for pebbles in the roads. |

Just watch out for riff-raff. With beer and pizza.
