Somebody is hooked LOL.... Welcome to the madness Mike. My personal opinion. A stock S1W would be great. Yes I am a S2 guy but have owned a S1 and S1W. The S1W, even in stock form, is in your face rude. The S2 is just classy. |

And Mike, I hope to see you in the old school section more often. It is a lot better than the rhetoric of the other sections. That S1 was really taken care of..... Intake, exhaust, rear fender and the license plate mount (maybe turn signals, I cannot really tell) are the only things not original. Also missing the bottom belt guard but I think those are the same mods I did to my 97 S1 that I bought new in 96. I would move that breather filter catch setup. It will make a mess. Absolutely fantastic looking S1. I am really glad YOU got it. |

Frank I have the original intake and bottom belt guard. The original Muffler was with the bike when the original owner traded it to the guy I got it from but the I am not sure were that went. I would really like to get the original muffler. When I went to get it I asked if he had the original muffler and he said he did not have it. Getting a lot of decel popping with the muffler setup and intake. But the bike runs good. Did have a problem trying to start it a few times today. Hit the starter button and nothing. Tried the horn and nothing. A few minutes later it starts right up. Happened twice today. I will have to check the battery connections. The kickstand switch has been bypassed. I was thinking it was a bad connection in the starter switch but then after hitting the horn button and nothing I am not sure. No directionals also. But the lights on the dash were on. Any Ideas? |

After my S1 project will be finished, I might have to purchase a bone stock S1 myself too... |

yes, check all the contacts. Take the wires off the relays (there are four of them, three are 15 amp and one is 30 amp, I believe) and clean the wire ends and relay contact area then put them back on. There is also a relay (plastic case) that is a starter relay. It does not sound like that but check it. Easy replacement at auto parts store.

Check the carb jets. I am not sure what is good at sea level but someone will pop in hear with a good baseline. Often people would change the carb and intake and not mess with the carb. It does require re-jetting. (easier than re-mapping and a caveman can do it) I assume it is the stock CV 40 carb. I think, and I am not sure, I was running a 190 or 195 main jet in my S1W but maybe a 185 in my S1 (S1 was stock muffler and S1W was not)...... Someone please pipe in here. While you have the carb off clean it up real good and get a rebuild kit. For piece of mind you may want to replace the intake seals as well. How many miles on it? It looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor. |

It has a little over 21000 miles. The carb had the jets changed. Not sure if it was done for sea level |

You should take up photography as a profession...Oh wait, you do that already..!! That S1 is literally picture perfect. I would add the Buell tank decal to "educate" everyone what Buell bikes are all about.. |

Mike, The V&H muffler has never been repacked (15,000 mi on it). That might be the first thing I'd try to address the decel popping in addition to checking the intake seals. The carb was re-jetted for sea level when I put the V&H on there. The jetting is correct and verified on a dyno. The decel popping is something new that I have not seen since the bike was new. BTW... It didn't get out of the garage much for the 2010 season. Hope this helps. |

Gunner, I will check into repacking the muffler. Thanks for the info on the jetting. |

Beautiful. The S1 is, to me, the purest expression of the concept of a motor and two wheels. I WILL have one some day. |

A re-pack may very well solve that problem. If the decel popping gets worse I would go ahead and change the intake seals. Just a gorgeous bike Mike. Gunner, your old bike? Outstanding. |

An exhaust leak can also cause some popping. Check the header for leaks and sometimes that link pipe needs some high temp silicone to seal properly. Great bike and nice pics. |
