Even when I rode the street, one weekend trip to AR and I shot a set of tires.

Tires are a bi-monthly thing, at least.

In Ratbuell's defense, he has 6 bikes. He does ride, and collectively his annual mileage is still at least 5 times more than the average, but it does take him a while to get to tire changes. Then when he does change his tires, he picks the worst possible tires in the world to put on. Then he milks that tire to the point he needs to change it from a motel parking lot in the middle of nowhere.

Also JD, both Ratbuell and I see 10x more tire life than you. My XB is still running the same rubber since 2009 or something, 18,000 miles. : )

HeyheyHEYheynow...

Bristol VA isn't *really* the middle of nowhere.

It's kinda on the edge.

And it was a Waffle House.

And you just don't like the tires I have on my Uly. I run PR2's on the S2, and eventually all the bikes (EXCEPT the Uly, it spends too much time on non-pavement) will be wearing either PR2's or PR3's.

Not only do I love the 616s on the Uly...but I get a kick out of how much they torque you up!

And finally....it was 26 on Monday when I rode to work. Winter salt and sand are a pain in the ass...but black ice SUCKS. And the tire change noted above by Froggy was on the return leg from Buelltoberfest. To Maryland. THAT...was a great weekend of riding - Maryland, down the Blue Ridge Parkway, to TWO, the Dragon, and all the great roads down around Suches....then reversed the route and came home! Nearly as nice as the three-day lap-O-Lake Michigan for Homecoming : )

Which...oddly enough...required its own rear tire change...hmmmmm. But yep. The tire I got put on going to HC was skin-bare coming home from Buelltoberfest.

I ride a little bit.

Currently they have about 6k on 'em and look brand new.

And - depressingly enough due to age - that includes a 2-up "parade lap" around the track at the 25th Homecoming in '08 as well as lots of slab and back roads.

Anyone who was at the 25th will tell ya..."Parade Lap" is vastly inaccurate.

"Free-For-All" is close.

2 hard laps, fully loaded with wide bags and a passenger, passing on the outside of a sweeping right (among other crazy stuff), and all I kept thinking was "dammit, I can't hang off because she's in my way morebrakemorebrakeMORE BRAKE!!!!!"

Btw, anyone know what happened to the kid who wrecked the Blast? I know he broke his shoulder, but did he ever ride again? I know his dad is on here but i can't remember who it is.

His son Sean learned a LOT and Pop, Steve, is "to blame" for most of it.
Talking to Steve, he's doing very well, says he's proud of him... good people.

I was up front and we were hauling ass.
I thought about touching my knee and remembered I was in street jeans.
Never got scared really, just figured if the guy in front of me didn't go down, I wouldn't either if I copied his moves exactly. It worked.

Back on topic - NO bearing failures on 3 Buells, almost 70k combined.

on a side note, i have never used a torque wrench to change any of my wheels... or most anything(i have on occasion used one for certain things though)

apparently my... "yep that'll do it" gauge is pretty spot on.

i just sold a car with a 4 cylinder single over head cam in it a few weeks ago. when i got that car i had to tear it apart to fix it. had a broken cam. maybe 20 minutes later i had it back together and running. it was still running great when i sold it close to 100,000 miles later(put on by me after that) and almost 180,000 on it total. i kept thinking i should tear it apart, buy a good torque wrench, and check over those bolts that are holding down the cam and such... never did do it. guess it was "about right"

maybe i really am just that lucky.

I took the red wheels off the XB with 24k on them to put on 1125R. Bearings felt a little stiff and not real smooth.I was in a pinch and had to get wheels on for transportation. Removed outer seal very carefully to find junk grease in side. Cleaned old grease out of bearings with gas thorougly. Repacked bearings with auto wheel bearing grease. Those wheels and bearings now have 36K on em.I follow service book specs on axel torque with every new tire about 4-5K per tire.

I have not been in here for awhile, as my 1125r is in the garage with what seems to be failed rear bearings.
I was coming from Los Angeles, California to my home in Lake Havasu City, Arizona, it was a bit warm during last summer. I had stopped at Chiriaco Summit for fuel, about the mid point of a 300 mile trip. All seemed good, hit the road for the remainder. As I came into town, the bike felt a bit strange, got off checked tires, they were ok. rode another mile home. As I was turning into driveway about 2 mph the rear locked up, and being at the bottom of a inclined drive, I could'nt reach the ground and plop I went. I picked up me and bike and took a couple minutes to say "WHAT THE #$%@" As I pushed the bike back and forth it seemed to move but was making a loud snapping sound. I got down and could see powdered metal around left side of wheel at axle and wheel. So needless to say that is where it has sat since. The bike has 2000 miles and is still under warranty I think, less than 2 years. Any recommendations? I purchased it at Chandler and I will never return there EVER. No dealer for Buell within 200 miles...

Sputter- take it to a decent dealer; if the bike's less than 2 years old it's still under warranty.

Several pre-2010 Uly riders that have had rear wheel bearing failures have gotten the 2010 upgraded wheel as a replacement for no extra charge. If the wheel, axle, or swingarm is damaged, you'll almost certainly get the upgraded part. The 2010 rear wheel has 3 bearings (vs. 2), they're larger, and they have external dust seals. It's a much stouter design that the pre-2010 setup.

Hughlysses, thanks, guess thats what Iam looking for.. Being so far from any dealers and the closest one is horrible. Was looking for advice on dealers or someone to call at factory... I have had this for almost 2 years and 2000 miles tells how disappointed I am. I have sold 2 of my Harleys still have 2 older ones left. I hardley step into a dealer anymore since the purchase of this thing. Any advice on someone at corporate level to speak to without going through the parade of BS.

No help, but I holed a piston at Chiriaco Pass in my 650 Yamaha twin in 1979.
Headed to Houston from LA with 35 bucks in my pocket and a full seabag behind me.

Hitched a couple of rides WITH the bike, got it to Phoenix where I rebuilt the motor.
Partied with some nearby bikers for a couple of days after she started on the first kick.
Best 4 days of a 30 day leave...

Sorry for the OT, good memories...
