does anyone know for sure if the only cast wheels available in 96 were Marhcesinis? are cast wheels with a p/n ending in -96Y guaranteed to be Marchesinis??? or were they only 95s??? thanks in advance! |

I **think** they change from Marchisini to Castalloy took place during MY96. I've have to go through running change data on the build sheets database to find the unit. Best to check the individual bike. |

The Castally wheels have a -97Y part number which means these wheels were first used in 1997 ... Marchesini wheels were before 1997(ie: 1996 back) ... Marchesini wheels are lighter than Castally wheels ... Performance Machine(PM) wheels(first used in 1994) are the heaviest wheels ... |

ok, so if i find some nos wheels with -96Y p/n, they will be Marchesinis!!??? that seems to be the consensus??? Buellistic, thanks, well aware of them being lighter, that's why i want to know for sure if the ones i found are Marchesinis or not, don't know if i can get them looked at before buying them. just hope the change to castally included a p/n change, not just a supplier change??? |

The best way to tell, as the wheel could have been 'modified' is that the Marchesinis will have a big "M" de-bossed (cast outward) on both sides of one of the 3 spokes. |

thanks everyone, i know how to identify them, if i could get eyes on them, i need to know if the p/n is a foolproof way of identifying them or not, or if i just have to have faith!? thanks again, don't mean to sound ungrateful. |

I will go out on a limb here, but will say that it sounds like a Castalloy wheel. The reason being is the "-" and then the 6th and 7th year digit (this states the year the part was officially recognized as a legitimate project for the next model year in the HD system) with a "Y" is an HD suffix for an HD part developed for Buell (independent of whether HD had anything to do with the development or not). Buell used a 5 number, a "." and then a number/s &/or letter part number convention. Also, the Marchesini wheels came out on the 95 S2, which some were build in 1994, so a -96Y suffix would be unlikely. But there was alot of both numbers being used in the mid to late 90s, so I am not going to say this is 100%. Could you post a photo? That would help immensely. |

This all sounds right. I finally found my data. There were 22 running changes to the S2 in 1995 and 1996. None involved wheels. |

court; so it seems that they may be Marchesinis, if the have the -96Y suffix? but no guarantees? the item description just says "Rear Wheel Gray" i may just have to take the risk to get a set of brand new wheels and hope they are Marchesinis!!! |

Low risk . . the Castalloy are just as good and they have been selling cheap . . I've got spares sitting around here. I'd roll the dice and go for it |

The Part Number for Performance Machine(PM) wheels are: FRONT - 43688-94Y REAR --- 43689-94Y These are BUELL PART NUMBERS and the -94Y indicates they were first used in 1994 !!! (Message edited by buellistic on February 25, 2011) |

thanks court, these aren't going to be very cheap, ($1100.00 plus shipping) and i have many sets of castalloys already, don't want anymore. if these end up being castalloys i'll probably lose money. |
