Why I oughta....TO THE MOON Torqd...Thanks for the sympathy Bomber. If he keeps it up, I know there are pictures around... Thanks bomber. I have similar tail lights. Trying to figure out if I'll use them or go a different direction. I should be alright with the latest pic. I just need to find some fiberglassing materials and maybe a how-to. Oh and take the time to do it. Then the wife will want me to patch the ceiling patch the hole in the wall...Why are those chores so much less fun! Thanks again Bomber. Well brakes over and here comes Frank, I gotta look busy! |

2001 M2 tail section cracks develop again. I had it replaced once under warranty, and this one went a little more than a year also before it developed cracks. The bike only has 12,000 miles on it. I have been scratching my head trying to figure out why these cracks occur. I did notice that the seat makes contact and rests on top of the two rear tail section mounting screws. I can see the rub marks under the bottom of the seat when I take it off and flip it over. The two small "bumps" that extend from under the bottom of the seat are also resting on the middle of the tail section. The seat does not rest on the frame, even though it appears to have two mouldings on the underside, and two cutouts in the tail section for this purpose. I'm beginning to believe that the seat (and weight of the rider) being supported by the tail section is my problem. Is their any cure for this cheesy feat of engineering? Are their any aftermarket tail section alternatives for M2s? Thanks, Steve

M2 tail section update: I removed the tail section and drilled small holes to try and stop the cracks from growing. I also got after the cracks with a Dremel tool and small round file on both sides to rough them up and create slight troughs so the epoxy filler will work well. I used some Devcon two-part epoxy that takes 24 hrs to set up. When it was finished drying, the whole tail section seemed much more rigid than it was when it was new. I used alot of epoxy. I remounted the tail section with the original hardware, but added some large flat rubber washers between the mounting screws and top of the tail section. Let's see how long this patch job lasts. I'm still on the lookout for an aftermarket tail section alternative. If anyone has any ideas, please speak up. - Steve

Where the cracks, under the seat itself? I tucked my Stock tail section away, I'll have to get it out and look. I can't think of a better fix than the one you did other than maybe putting something in the epoxy to help stiffen and stregthen. Kinda like putting rebar in concrete. edited by full_throttle on October 10, 2003 |

The cracks are close to the rear mounting screws. What did you do to eliminate your stock M2 tail section? |

I'm using an S1 tail section. I just have to box in the back and work out the lighting. Not sure what I want to do yet. I have to look at material options. Right now I just have rear brake lights. edited by full_throttle on October 11, 2003 |

Steve, My 01 M-2 tail section cracked as you desibed,I fixed mine as you described but I used resin with cloth on the bottom side of tail. I wondered if mine cracked besause of oil resevoir cap not keeping seat off of tail section. When I put on Banke resivoir it seemed to change seat positoin by lifting the front of the seat slightly. |

Say has anyone ever mounted an S-3 fairing on a 2001 M-2L? Thought it might look pretty rad, would like to set my bike up for some longer hauls too. |

Stingaroo, Look at the pic in my profile. I put mine on my M2 over two years ago and it was well worth it. I think it was about $700 total and you it is mostly bolting things on and wiring in the clock. |

Leeaw, that is exactly what I am talking about! I dig it, any leads on where I could pick up a fairing? how exactly did it mount up to the bike? I will have to check out my buddies S-3 to compare and contrast. Did you keep the stock handlebars, or did you get a set of S-3s? Thanks man! |

Sting, there is a fairing mount that bolts up to those two mounts on the steering head. Very simple. The fronts of the M2 and S3 are the same. Stock handlebars too. I think they are the same as the S3, whereas the S3T are taller. I think there is a green S3 fairing in the classifieds but you could also try Ebay. It is much nicer running down the parkway with some wind protection. I am 6' 1" and it hits me just above my neck, where I would get it in the chest with the stock setup. You can even add the +3" windshield to go for more protection. CCRYDER, aka Neil, was the one to pass on to me the parts list for the conversion. I am bet his still has it even though he put his bike up for sale in the classifieds. Good luck. edited by leeaw on October 14, 2003 |

How about putting an S3 rear on an M2 (with an S3 seat of course)? I really like the rear body work on the S3, plus the bags, plus the fairing. I should have bought one in the first place. Anyone want to swap theirs for my 01 M2 plus some cash? |

The rear frame is different on the S3 / M2. I suspect it could be done (see M2 - S1 tail conversions) but would be a bit harder. edited by aesquire on October 14, 2003 |

I backed up with a disk lock on, and cracked the right side of my front fender. I epoxied the break, sanded it, and painted it with a Krylon Fusion spray can. This paint is meant for plastic (PVC pipe, patio furniture), doesn't need a primer, and the Sunbeam Yellow is a very close match for Reactor Yellow. Available at WalMart for about $6.50 CDN (~$5 US). Goes on very thin, needs lots of coats (5 on mine), and the final coat has to be somewhat heavy to get a good gloss. |

Hey, Can an X1 Fly Screen (or any others) be used on an S1? Also, anyone know which front fenders can be used on an S1. Thanks. - Bud |
