Ran into a pile of sand left behind from the ice event a couple weeks ago, here in Dallas. I managed to get the bike stopped just before hitting a curb, but it was crossed up, and went down, almost stationary. I did a shoulder pointer onto the road. Tried to pick the bike up and realized there was movement inside my shoulder. Rode it home (the tupperware over the radiator is a bit scratched, but that's all) and went to the ER. Yup, 2 broken bones in the shoulder, surgery scheduled for Friday. The bags protected the other parts of the bike. I took this picture 10 minutes before the incident.

I dropped my CR at 0 mph and between trying to not let it drop and yanking it back up before the rest of the fellas got there I tore my rotator cuff. I had tore my other one a few years before. Next time (which there won't be!) I'll let the pods do their thing and let 'er go. Tore my right one during sex and the left during motorcycling so can't bitch too much I guess. I'm over 50 and all...and you've got 10 years on me! Take your drugs and heal fast amigo! And tell people it happened at like 80mph! |

Maybe i'm getting old. but a bike can USUALLY be fixed. Screw up your body trying to save the bike ain't worth it. I've done it and don't think it is |

Ugh. Sorry to hear that Danii. Happens to the best of us. And no, that's not just a cliche... Yesterday. Buttonwillow Raceway. Start of second session. Cold Tires and some sort of grit on the line I chose in Turn 3. Wham. Down she went. Perhaps I was a tad too enthusiastic with the throttle ... I could feel the rear slide out a bit as I rolled on the gas since I was still leaned over, but what was weird was that it hooked up nicely and I felt like I was headed out of the corner just fine as the front let go. Anyway, with help I picked it up, it started right away, and I cleaned off the big dirt clods and mud and rode it back to the pits... gingerly. Like I said, it was probably too much throttle for the cold track/cold tire/slow-brain combo. It might also have had something to do with the fact that my friend who is an instructor for that track day organization was behind me on his Ducati Streetfighter and I wanted to gap him. I think I re-tore part of my rotator cuff (had surgery on that in 09). I have pretty full movement but it hurts to lift my arm above my head (I know I know, "so don't do that.") Right now it's all about the Aleve. We'll see if it's better or worse tomorrow. Bike: Cheap parts: Thanks to the fact that I spent a couple hours on Sunday affixing my used/rattlecan'd white bodywork... no biggie there. Just more sanding and crappy paint and she'll be "good" to go again. clubman bar bent. bar-end weight busted off shifter peg ground down left passenger peg too clutch lever end Darkhorse axle sliders ground down on left expensive parts: stator cover and pegasus button need to be replaced. They got scratched/ground down badly when I lowsided on the left. No fluid leaks though. And the right side radiator pod busted. Apparently when the bike slid into the dirt, the tires hooked and flipped it onto its right side. All that inertia was borne by the right pod. :-( I'll be posting a request for used parts in the classifieds. I'll also be getting the CF engine protectors from Erik Buell Racing (Taylormade). Stator cover got pretty chewed up but didn't leak.
Darkhorse axle slider did its job. I like Delryn.
Inner radiator bracket, a cast aluminum piece, snapped in two.
Best news: I don't need a new decal thanks to its strategic location above the impact zone. :-)

Hey, Daniii: How do you like that Laminar Lip? R |

The laminar lip is great. With the high bars, it keeps the wind off my chest, but the helmet is in clear air. I strongly recommend it. I also have the 2" lowered pegs. I wrapped the grips with tennis racket dojobbies as the stock grips are just too small. Then I found some foam things to go over that. I can ride it long distances now. Or I will in 6 weeks, anyway. Where do I order new tupperware for the radiator side covers? |

American sport bike has em, or you can try E - B - R they might have some still. Heal quickly everyone, I know JDugger just broke his collar bone in Houston this past weekend as well. |

Sand, gravel and salt residue is why I'm never the first one to get the bike out here in NE Ohio. I like to get a good rain or two in to clean the roads up first. |

These bikes crash great, honestly. My race bike suffered minimal parts damage in my 100+ MPH left-hander unintentional dismount. The bodywork was ripped to pieces, but helping the expensive bits slide safely is part of what race body work does! |

In the winter some rural roads in Oregon are so moist there is a thin light green layer of vegetation growing in the center of the lane, slicker than snott. Taking the either left or right car tire line is generally cleaner and safer. |

Danii, sorry to hear about your injury first, sorry about the bike second. I dropped by bike in the garage, I frogot that I had lifted the kick stand, no damage to the bike, because I fell with it tyring to save the mirror. Unfortunatley, my body fell into the front left quarter panel of my wife's 750li, $975.00 repair estimagte, she was pissed. |

Back from surgery to repair the collarbone - 7 screws and a plate. No bike riding for a while. Ordered new tupperware side covers from American Sport Bike. I probably won't put them on though until , if ever, I want to sell the bike. I've dropped the bike twice in the parking lot at work trying to park. It just doesn't turn as sharp at zero mph as I keep thinking it should. |

Back in 1992 I had a three-day old Ducati 900SS and was turning out of my driveway and was not used to the (lack) of steering lock and proceeded to do a laugh-in (old TV show) style tip over. On the way over I tried to slide my foot off the end of the peg but the peg had a lip on it and I tried to lift my leg up but I was wearing leather pants I had not worn for about 20 lbs ago and at the last resort threw my body under the bike as best I could. Sorta helped. But I don't advise it for us now older and somewhat wiser guys. Just sayin'... |

Prudence - the ability to govern oneself with use of reason. Smart people have virtues. Prudence is a virtue. I have had my mc endorsement for decades. A few years back a friend with a permit requiring an endorsed rider wanted to practice for her test at the DMV. I tried to go through the pylons on my S1, no way. The CR would be worse. These bikes are made to be leaned, I am reluctant to do this at such low speeds. My response to this predicament? Ride the bike at low speed like it is a very long wheel base machine. Summer is coming, mend quickly! |
