Hey guy's, I have my entry in for the Daytona 200 on my 1125R! James Gang Racing crew chief Mike Kirkpatrick will be bringing all his endurance racing experience to run the pit crew, Mike's advice on bike prep has also been invaluable. We did the last Dunlop tire test at the speedway a few weeks ago, and the times were quite respectable for only getting 5 laps in on the correct course (1.3 seconds off Tommy Aquino and Taylor Knapp) I know my tire bill will be BIG! I have a web page so that if anyone wanted to help out with a donation, they could do so on the web page. There's a race Bio, video interview and photo's etc on there too. Shawn, Wish you were out there with us. It'll be interesting to see where I stack up once everybody gets really rolling in practice/qualifying. My main goal is to finish the race, second goal is to be top twenty, then who knows with the usual attrition in such a long race.... I tried in '03 and had a front tire de-laminate at half distance, which chucked me on the ground and into the airfence in turn one. I'll be trying hard NOT to do that again! | ||

Question: During the 200, how many tire changes are required and how long does it take to change the front wheel? | ||

Front tire changes depend on the setup of the wheel.. I know one 1125r team(#70) they can change the front wheel in the blink of an eye.. They leave the caliper on the rotor and have a quick disconnect in the line. I have seen them do it.. a few times... Last year during the 200 i was Walt Sipp's fuel man. It was a night race but we never changed the front tire. Only the rear once. We made two stops for fuel though... | ||

McMike- I change the rear tire, did both Paul James and Shawn Higbee. As BJ said it was a night race,very cold, we did 2 rear tire changes with fuel. Ran the front the entire race but were ready to change it if the riders wanted it. If the warmer weather stays for the day race, well we'll be busy. But that's the crew's part of the race, get the rider in and out as fast and smooth as possible. Looking forward to the 200 with Pat! | ||

Bear- 43 seconds for a front tire change. We could do it almost as fast as the fuel fill. I miss those days. AMA needs to bring back an endurance series. | ||

I will go Friday for day One racing and take my camera. (cheapo) If I am lucky I'll get a few pics. If anyone Local wants to ride over Thursday, I can ride over then as well. Its spring Break week for me. Saturday, I'll be doing Gator nats In Gainesville I do believe. But, I'll catch the tube that night and online for updates. Go Erik Buell Racing go go go... | ||
