Not just discharge but completely die? I rode my bike yesterday. Ran great! Parked it over night and plugged it onto the tender. Came home this afternoon and the tender light was still blinking (indicating that it wasn't connected to anything). Turned the key, and it's completely dead. I even ran a jumper wire between the two terminals to see if there was ANY spark. Nothing. I'm going to have the batter tested, but I've never seen one completely die without any indication that it was on the verge. |

Stator, rotor or regulator failure? I only say this 'cause my stator/rotor went out on the X1. The tender would recharge it overnight but, after 30 odd miles I had no electricity in the system. |

Fully charged BATTERY should read 13 to 12.8 VOLTS engine off ... Engine running charge rate across battery terminals should read 13.8 to 15 VOLTS ... Engine running charge rate at STATOR should be 38 to 52 VOLTS ... |

Have you done the Ft bstrd charge indicator light mod on it? I am curious to see if that gave any indication. Also, check your ground strap, sounds like it is an open circuit if the red light was flashing. Could be a short that is draining the battery as well. I have had the same thing happen this week. Battery completely dead. I replaced the battery yesterday. I had no indication with the Signal Dynamic light indicator that the stator went bad and was not charging. |

A wild thought: Your charging device is connected to the battery and could very well be the draining device if it's not working. Unlikely, but... |

Of course check your battery connections. |

My second battery died suddenly like that. Drove to work like nothing was wrong in the world, then at the end of the day, so dead it wouldn't even CLICK. So dead that it wouldn't take a charge from a car and jumper cables. These AGM batteries seem to die strangely like that. Here is the test: With everything off, measure the voltage at the battery. Mine measured 12.2 V with no load applied. Then as soon as I turned anything on, SHUNT to 0 volts! |

Well, I had the battery tested. It was so dead that they couldn't even test it. They charged it for almost 30 minutes and tested it. Fail. Dead. Toast. Tested it again. TOAST. Funny thing is, IT'S THE ORIGINAL BATTERY!!!! |

I had 1 on a FXR do that had an open inside the battery good specific gravity on all the cells just no juice at the poles. |

Ft_bstrd: IMHO, under my BATTERY PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE PROGRAM this inconvenience would have probably never happened to you ... 11 years out of a OEM BATTERY, "WOW" !!! |

It sounds like an internal broken connection between cells resulting in an open-circuited battery. Total failure and not repairable. Possible causes could be 1) random failure, 2) battery post twisted or mishandled by torquing the battery cable screw and not restraining the cable, 3) excessive vibration or sudden impact shock like being dropped, 4) wait, original battery? - well, probably too old and worn out (battery not you ). |

I am anal about the battery tender. It's either under my butt at speed or on the tender. I have NOT added the Fatty Meter Mod yet. It's on the list to do. What was my first indication that something was amiss was when I walked into the garage and the tender light was still flashing yellow indicating that the tender wasn't attached to the battery. Checked the tender lead fuse. Nope, it's good. I don't have a battery meter (need to get one). I did the poor man's check, screw driver to terminal and tap the frame. Not even a spark. I was amazed to see the original factory battery as well. I'm just glad I wasn't pushing it back home. |

Got a VROD battery in mine. Been Ok for a few years now. Battery went dead this winter from Stupid Human trick(left in bike with no tender). Tried jumping the bike from my Charger/Booster and smoked my Kury Aken LED volt meter. Every thing else seems to be OK though. |

Still have the original battery in my '02. I'm really picky about the tender too though, I even take one with me if the bike is going to be parked overnight somewhere other than my house. |
