No word from the Navajo... I am beginning to think I will head east... New Orleans... and then a quick trip to Florida... unfortunately, I feel this journey is coming to an end much sooner than I had hoped... money... weather... money... I wish none of that mattered and I could do this for a year !!! I guess I am lucky I got to do any traveling at all... it is gonna be hard to leave here... but, as I warned the Ranchito owners, if you feed me, I will keep coming back just like a stray cat! |

I am a little frustrated... got an e-mail from the Navajo... of course saying absolutely nothing... On one hand I would pack up everything and move there (four corners area)... just to see if I can do it and still be happy... On the other hand I want to tell them to go jump in a lake... stick to my original plan... finish out the trip... which I planned to go on another three to five weeks... and move to North Carolina and to continue on with the task of building a life again and building my career... I am starting to get a little tired of the uncertainty... I know all I have is now... but I miss a little of the security and I miss Madison... even though I hated winters there... I knew at some point I would come to this place... for over five weeks I have been having a blast... and I have to say today has been a really good day... good food... good company... and you cannot beat sitting by the poolside soaking up the sun drinking an iced coffee in the middle of February either... Also... California is on my mind too !!! I am stunned I guess at how beautiful and wild so much of California is, and I have just scratched the surface... thinking of Jerry's offer to crash out in the 'love shack' in the mountains and explore San Diego and what job opportunities might be there... I know, I know, this is all opportunity... all good... all learning HOW to live without fear... but damn, sometimes I would just trade it all in for a traditional life... wa wa wa... etc etc etc... More later... |

Sounds like you finally got to the good part of the trip Let the deep introspection begin! Most importantly, though, stay safe and healthy. |

Char: You might never have an opportunity like this ever again. Enjoy what is good, shake off the bad, move forward. I took a similar trip many years ago and it was definately a life changer for me. Introspection is good for the soul and it sure beats sitting around and saying to yourself "someday". There are many opportunities in life, both work and leisure. Tell the Navajo what is on your heart. Let the chips fall where they may. Life is too short to jump quickly and then regret what you didn't get to know better. Live! |

You gotta keep bugging the Navajo - they are like that - slow at deciding, a face to face with one of the hiring chairs could facilitate things a bit, especially considering your scientific background - depends how much you want the job, much friendlier group than my Apache tribe - EZ |

It is the not knowing that was (yesterday) driving me up the wall... but this is actually a pattern of mine too... I want to move forward and not look back... I have done this in relationships in the past also... things get complicated, uncertain, painful and/or difficult... then I say F THIS and jump ship... there are a lot of unknowns about moving up to Gallup... a big part of me wants to do a U-Turn and head back into the desert and into the sun and take another lap up the Rio Grande... see some things in New Mexico and Arizona and then just settle down into the Southern California area and get on with life... I think I owe it to myself to go to New Orleans though... since I have ALWAYS wanted to go there as long as I can remember... maybe decide on a plan in the next three days... leaving here to go camping on the beach by the TX/LA border... then to New Orleans for a few days... I think Piglet wants some crawdads too !!! We are fixin' on shooting some things with Tom and Michelle's firearms... it ain't a trip to Texas if you don't get to shoot some things !!! |

"leaving here to go camping on the beach by the TX/LA border..." I was in Gilchrist during hurricane Alicia. There and High Island. Before the storm, hangin out in a beach tavern (ice house) at around 4pm or could get you a smokin deal on fresh shrimp as the shrimpers came in for a cold beer. The ride from Galveston on the ferry to the Bolivar Peninsula and east along the peninsula to Bolivar is worth taking slowly and stopping often. If Joe Faggard is still Constable in Gilchrist, tell him howdy from Pan Dan. He was a good cop. |

No Dan, it's illegal to have more than 6. It's a little nugget I tumbled across some time ago & tossed into a discussion on another thread. I love Texas too. |

Well... I got rid of mine when I packed up to move... kindof the 'what if I die and someone has to go through my stuff?', besides, at least one of them was getting a little worn out...
