Just ride it, any major issues will most likely happen during the standard 2 year warranty. $850 for another year? Yea, rather than piss in the wind I would put it towards tires and a track day. |

its a gamble, some, like riden, will use it to its fullest. others will other wise lose out. when i bought my Lightning used, the ford truck not the bike, i had the option to buy a 3 month bumper to bumper warranty for $150 extra, i did. one month later the trans blew out, just over 4k to have it repaired. |

if you can set the money aside, go ahead and just keep it for a rainy day. with an 08 stator, you should have no worries HRHD's service can be kinda 'hit or miss' and SSHD has only been 'nice' to me after paying them too much money. it seems some of them have forgotten about it since just last year. if the dealerships were more buell-frendly, i'd say go ahead and do it, but since so few of the 1125 were made, and that they are differen from anything else the techs see, it might be money wasted. on teh other hand; if you got that kinda money in your sock drawer ... |

I think its a good idea. My bike had the engine replaced under warranty, if I had to pay for it it would have been $9700, $7000 for the motor, and $2700 in labor. These bikes are generally reliable, but if they break, its most likely expensive, especially if you can't do the labor. |

Indeed. It is a form of insurance, so its one of those things that will only cost you money till the one day you are unlucky enough to need it. Good for you Ridenusa4l, you hit the jackpot! |

I started a thread about this some days back. I'm not generally an advocate of extended warranties, but on this bike @ $1,254 for an additional 5 years, count me in >> http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290 431/615411.html?1297531378 |

One stator failure pays for the policy. I am thinking about extending the warranty on mine. |

Make you mind up fast because the pricing is under review. Large increases coming VERY soon. Pm me and I will get you the info you need. Worked for Milleniumx1 and he can now relax, just like me. |

I did purchase additional 5 year warranty (they call it 7 year) for $1254, too. Barbara from the dealership said, that H-D is going to increase the warranty price by $500 by the end of the month. (Message edited by yugi on February 19, 2011) |

Personally, I've hated having the H-D mechanics inside my bike. Aside from blowing a motor, there isn't much I'd rather have taken care of by H-D. I'll do it myself and feel better about it. At least that way, I won't have to show the H-D what needs to be done. Of course, I am not judging anyone who chooses to get the warranty - get H-D to pay for as much as you can. |

I'll gamble on not needing the warranty. The closest Buell dealer that MIGHT be willing to do anything moderately advanced is two hours away, so I'd be looking at 8 hours of driving (two 4-hour round trips) to have the bike worked on. (There is a closer dealer but they passed when I asked them about having my frame insulated with the approval number that HD gave me, so if I can't trust them for that, what can I trust them for that I can't do myself?) If the stator goes (mine's an '08), I'll have it rewound. If the engine blows (unlikely), I'll Ebay one for $1500. Anything else that goes wrong, I'll fix myself for a lot less than the warranty would cost. If I didn't have the tools or knowledge to do the work myself and if I had a very close and very competent dealer and I had an extra $1254 burning a hole in my pocket, I'd get the warranty. |
