Hello all, I am new to the site and interested in buying a blast. Can anyone give me some tips on what to avoid and what to look for when i do? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks, Sean |

Welcome Sean! Look for one thats bone stock and not modified in any way. Look for low mileage. 5000 miles or less would be great. Less than 10,000 would be okay. I just think there are still too many out there with low mileage to buy one with more than 10k. First year models should be avoided (2000-2001). They are not necessarily bad, but they suffered from the most "new model" bugs. Essentially all years are the same and 99.99% of all parts are interchangeable. Thats the short list and some things will depend on your budget and mechanical abilities. The newer the bike, the more you'll pay. My opinion. Good luck. |

Thanks for the tips guys...i live in the metro Detroit area and unfortunately there are only 2001 models for sale right now but i will keep an eye out...still considering an 01 though cause the guy only wants $1500 and it only has 3000 miles...argh...what to do, what to do!!! Sean |

$1500 is about right for a clean low mileage 2001. It wont need much, but it will likely need the rocker cover gaskets if not already done. Its all about your budget. If $1500 is your budget, then thats a good bet.* Are you mechanically inclined? That makes a difference on what you could buy. The thing about used bikes is they are only as reliable as the last guy that worked on it and {in most cases} nothing is as reliable as factory parts and assembly. Thats why I always recommend factory stock. If you know the work was done by somebody who knew what they were doing (thats not always the dealer either), then modified can be a safe bet. Some modifications dont suffer many 'complications'. Others are very risky. Kenster's bike sounds like a good deal, IF you want rearsets and exhaust, etc. or you are mechanically inclined and want to put it back to stock. (I still dont understand why all the mods and it only has 1700 miles on it?) Unfortunately my advice contradicts buying a Blast from just about anybody on Badweb Subtract about $400 from the purchase price of new for every year the Blast gets older, bottoming out about $1200-$1500: 4600-44=4200, 3800, 3400, 3000, 2600, 2200, 1800, 1400. and then factor in mileage (Message edited by GEARHEADERIKO on March 17, 2010) |

the idea GH has about stock is true in that you dont have to worry about what- and of what quality the changes were made and some guys beet the equipment all to hell mine has lots of mods because the fun part was doing them - my blast is a gently used toy - and i change toys yearly- the rearsets may not be for all but the pipe ,intake jet- just make it run stronger i lost about 15% on fuel economy but thats 72 mpg to 58mpg so again a daily driver for your timid wife bone stock good bet - but if you think your going to want a little more pep let the last rider take the cash bath a close inspection of any bike you should see if its covered in oil or dirty as hell with things missing and the guy says it runs great but you have to hold this wire in your teeth to start it -its probably a pass mine is a 2000 but has zero leaks or other issues that turn people away from that year either way they are super fun little bikes that handle amazingly well ken |

If the answer was "it wasnt running right so I changed this and this" or "I crashed it and replaced the bent parts with hi-po parts" that would be bad. Your reasons are what makes your bike a good buy. I know walk a fine line with my advice on what to buy as it does not help sell most Badwebers Blasts. And its true that letting someone else take the cash bath on hi-po parts is a good idea, if those mods are what you want. But I've seen the butchery and I know the weaknesses of certain mods and their installation. Owning three Blasts, some old and new Harleys (not to mention other old & new vehicles), I know that high vibration bikes do not take well to non- factory parts or modifications. |

your advise on bone stock is rock solid i will only buy atv,bikes ect.that have a bone stock motor and drive train never bored over,recently rebuilt ect. but if you can get nerf bars ,armidillo bumpers or other mods that cost $$ but dont alter the original function then its $$ in your pocket if the seller has all the original parts that were removed it gives you more options and shows they were thinking about the longevity of the machine things like pipe and intake should be followed with rejet avoid mods that effect other thing like big new exhaust with stock jets i believe would run lean when in doubt stock is the way either way the blast is a fun bike that handles great is fun to ride |

Going to look at a 07 tomorrow that just went up for sale. 800 miles and asking $2450. hopefully i can get it a little cheaper cause my limit is $2000. Either way sounds like a pretty good deal. Supposed to be stock and well maintained!! It will be my first bike if all goes well...Wish me luck!! Thanks alot for all the help....great website... Sean |

Got it for $2100. He was the original owner and it is like new...830 miles, looks and runs excellent....He also threw in a helmet since i didn't have one and a cover and saddle bag...So all and all i think i got a pretty good deal. Now to find a good riding course and im in business!!! |

I just got a 2001 blast, that has low miles & runs great. I only have $500.00 tied up in it. Over the winter I got a 73 Suzuki 380Gt that I only paid $500.00 (the guy really needed money). Then a few weeks ago I did a trade for my Blast. It runs great, I'm not really worried about it being a 01. I think the blast is a great bike whatever year it is. |

i got a 03 blast 14000 miles. leaky rf fork. little oil in air box, but i don't see where its from. he said theres something with the shifter, but i just pushed it in my garage, cause i have tons of work. hopefully its worth the 1100. |

RF - use 35mm film to clean out that fork seal and restore it. Oil in air box normal, shifting could just be a clutch adjustment - an 03 on up Blast is a pretty solid animal. EZ |

i took it apart and did both fork seals. i replaced the front mount and tie bar (adjuster or whatever its called),plug,wire, and rear tire. it runs good now. i put about 1500 to 2000 miles on it last year. whenever the weather is over 40 and 1/2 way decent i ride. i just can't wait for it to warm up a little! |
