I know this topic is almost as religious as oil, tire, and exhaust discussions. As a guy who never (well, until yesterday) buys extended service contracts, it has to be a great value to get me to even entertain it.

My '09R which I bought in the fire sale has just under 4K miles. It's had one stator replacement, hopefully a one-time deal. A member here (Nigel)gave me info on how to get the extra 5 years factory for $1,250.

First time I've ever bought one, but it seemed plausible at that price. I don't know if the dealership that sold it is a sponsor here, so I won't advertise for them. But for those interested, shoot me a PM.

Murphy's Law - Talking about my Buell and I now see snow is falling again. Come on now ...

ya ive never bought one either, but i got such a good deal on the bike and with all the problems i heard about the 1125s i had to get the extended warranty also.

im now on my 2nd stator and 3rd clutch cover and its nice knowing that as annoying as those issues are, i dont have to pay for them for a while

Yeah I have always been against extended warranties too, but my 1125 has certainly caused me to rethink that.

I think I will be buying one soon, if I choose to keep the bike.
Mine is almost out of the original warranty, so I better act fast.

I bought one after having 2 voltage regulators and a steering head bearing go out (during factory warranty).

i bought one of my xb9r that i bought in 2005. best money i ever spent. i knew i was going to ride my bike alot and when the jug base gaskets started leaking, it had already paid for it's self. same thing with the service contract. by 15,000 miles, already paid for the contract. did that in the first year with that bike

IMO... warranty isn't worth much, let alone extended warranty when my bike has been at dealer going on 5 months now! and that was after waiting almost 2 months for them to order parts!! all this for a new IC and clutch leak.

Tbolt, ask them to extend your warranty the five months..... you could not ride it!
I know others have had it done.

Folks, sorry about the delay in PM responses - I think I'm caught up now. I forgot that my emails from BWB are going to an email address that I don't use religiously. My bad!

My goal here was to help out those that might be interested, just like the person (Nigel) that gave me the tip originally. I get nothing for it, other than helping fellow Buell fans. That's plenty for me.

Having run similar operations in the telecom space, I like to think (accurate or not) that HD might keep more parts around if there's more contract obligations to fulfill ... Fingers crossed.

I got the 5 year extension (or as HD calls it '7 years' since they also count the original 2 year warranty) for $1,254. Never bought one before, but 'value' is in the eye of the beholder, individual variables.

I heard that this pricing is going up a considerable amount, which will affect every HD dealership that's selling the real-deal contracts. Some peace of mind, uptick in resale value ... Seemed fair to me. YMMV!

Do you get the tire coverage included at that price too?

Donnie, she is - I always notice when I'm treated like I try to treat others! Buellmojo, I opted to not take the T&W coverage, so not sure what it would cost with that.

Here is what I did, I took $2500 (the cost two 5 year warranty extensions), and put it in a savings account. In the likely event 5 years from now that I didn't need the money for any warranty work, I now have $2500 plus interest. In the event I do need work, short of an engine replacement I can't fathom anything that would use up more than my fund. The two most common issues (stator and clutch leak) can be fixed for under $200, and I am not stuck taking it to a possibly incompetent HD dealer. : )

When is it going to change, and how do you know about that?

Price is expected to change in the next two weeks, buell 1125 up by $500. This is info given to dealers by Harley.
I'm fine with oil changes, cleaning etc. I really don't want to fix the other stuff. Present interest rate are running at a thin layer of dust, so this warranty gives me peace of mind.
Having just made a claim for the clutch fix that totaled $400, I'm a third of my way there! Even DIY would have run $250 in parts plus all the running. Dealer picked up the bike, fixed it, returned it. All included I paid $50,

If I had the time, tools, and talent to do things beyond basic bike service, I'd be even less likely to buy an extended warranty. Like I said, this is the first one I've ever bought; mid 40's having owned 50+ vehicles.

I'm not exactly short on cash (but that could always change, such is life!) but I like knowing that if/when this thing breaks, my Buell-friendly dealer will come get it, fix it, and bring it back home. One less thing to worry about ...

Milleniumx1,
I now understand their pricing. They charge as for non-XB model, which is cheaper. Well 1125 is a non-XB model, but other dealers charge for as it's XB.
They also waive $150 penalty, if you're over 3 months/2000 miles since the purchase date.

I've got one for $1254 for additional 5 years.
This is non-XB pricing. I think that the pricing was set before 1125 models were released, thus they don't mention 1125 anywhere, and we're lucky that it's not called XB. Local dealership quoted me as for an XB model.
