So today was the most fun I have had since I can remember. The largest mineral show is here this weekend. I have been talking to Nepalese, Australian, Moroccans and Brazilians about one of my favorite topics... ROCKS... oh and the fossils are unbelievable too... get ready for a detour cause I took lots of fabulous photos... ALSO... hit the dirt again on the bike coming out of the hotel I was parked at... it was shadowy and I was paying attention to crazy traffic... and BAM... out of nowhere I am on the ground... I am definitely going to be sore tomorrow... big old bruise on my right side thigh and shoulder... but the Piglet is rebounding... this time the latch on the bag didn't even get screwed up... WOW!!! Nice cop picked up the bike for me too... gotta love a man in uniform... |

Charles was a great help to a complete stranger in the Yuma area... he even came across town on a weekday to drink some coffee (or whatever the hell tea concoction he came up with) with me...
Welcome to the LARGEST gem, mineral and fossil show in the WORLD...
No, it was not even close to being cold enough this morning for wearing that Yooper hat... probably from California or something...

This man from Morocco found this very ancient, complete fossilized fish... Wow!!!
This is a meteorite (iron) with mafic inclusions... mafic minerals are common in the mantle, while iron is believed to be the core of the earth...
I think this is quartz with tourmaline... this crystal is approximately four square feet!

Wow another rock hound! I was just visiting my brother and He is a rock and gem collector also. His collection decorates His entire home. It would make a museum curator jealous. |

Close up of a trilobite colony... containing three different species... the entire piece was a bit larger than my bike!!!

Unusual amethyst crystalization...
Calcite geode...
Notice the rounded fingers of the crystal... quartz has pointy edges while calcite is rounded...

Most of these amethyst geodes are taller than I am...
Omar's is originally from Spain, where his family has been harvesting perfectly cubic pyrite for generations... he was so impressed with my bike trip, he gave me a crystal...
Damn big fish...

This T Rex got his revenge, as I accidentally knocked him with my shoulder taking goofy photos... after I read that he was 72 Million years old... I noticed the paleontologists sitting in front of him didn't even see me do it !!! Oooooopppps !!! Fortunate for them, it was a replica of the original... no harm... no foul...

That is SUPER COOL! . . .for a scientist like you (I assume most folks here know that in "real life" you are a scientist) that's a regular geologigasm! >>>notice the soapstone dust on his nose... Uhhh . . Char . . we gotta talk. Lindsay Lohan already used that excuse. Have fun and try to keep the rubber part and the pavement in contact. Latches have never, in years of testing, been through what you've put them through in a week. Seriously . . . have fun and be careful. We're loving watching your adventure. Court |

If the idiots that were trying to come into the exit zone were not there I might have seen the dust on the road... it is quite something when you don't see it coming... Both cops were asking if I was ok... kinda surprised them when I said "I am fine, I just had the wind knocked out of me..."... but my hip and ass is gonna be sore tomorrow... Seriously, Sonny is a nice guy... and yes it was talc dust... I seen it with my own eyes... |

Still keep an eye on yourself. If it gets hard to breath, head into the emergency ward. wouldn't want a collapsed lung slow you down. I had one and didn't really know it till the DR. told me. You might get some bruises in the next couple of days. I was bruised from my ankles to my neck. rex |

Now the bruises on my ass match the ones on my back from impaling myself on the wooden bunk bed in the middle of the night last night... Seriously... I am fine... but pretty soon I should be wearing my ATGATT literally 24/7 I think... May be going up to Window Rock to talk to the Navajo... they are still interested in me... gotta see how much for a car rental for three days from Phoenix to four corners... |
