If it is not too late to recommend a couple miles past the Cat House - is Willow Springs Raceway on your right. Unless they have a formal event, you can ride the perimeter road (turn Left inside the gate) - up to the BUDWEISER-painted building and around. http://www.cathouse-fcc.org/genInfo.html (worth the visit for anybody in the area!) Tiger, jaguar, fishing cat, serval, pallas' cat, caracal, ocelot, bobcat, Canada lynx, Geoffroy's cat, margay, jaguarundi, jungle cat, cougar, clouded leopard, snow leopard, and 4 subspecies of leopards |

That black jaguar was PISSED today!!! I wish I knew how to work my video on my camera with the sound... I have never heard anything like that... he was real grumpy... I just rode around after the cat house... photos to follow... been trying to figure out where to camp tomorrow... probably go to Joshua Tree National Monument and freeze my arse off... |

It is hard to describe how it feels to see these beautiful creatures behind fences... a whole mixture of emotion comes up... awe is one, to know that they could crack your bones in two with one swift bite... sadness, as a lot of these animals have vanishing habitats and keeping them in captivity is one way to be sure that they don't die out... fear, when the black leopard starts groaning, and you think he is pissed it is overwhelming... One of the cat populations is down to about forty individuals... total in the world... I know the cats are healthy because of all the love and attention they get, but I would like to see them roaming free, or in a 1,000 acre encampment... how they should be some day...

I love the desert. The area is surrounded by mountains, some of which Steve and I rode through, some of which I will see tomorrow... The air is clear and the sun is out and you feel like there is no such thing as winter here. I have to be extra careful around school zones, because I keep thinking it is summer and the speed limits are up... As much as I would love to stay here with Sunny and Steve and Rossi... tomorrow I will be heading out for lunch with Melanie and Danielle near San Dimas... a western suburb of Los Angeles... Then, if all goes as planned, ride out to Joshua Tree National Monument and camp for 2 or 3 days... probably out of range of cell phones and internet... the thing I should have done was figure out some way to charge the phone through the bike battery... but the fact that I have not actually makes going camping with no communication more appealing to me... let's hope that I don't run over any more nails in the road...

Hey Charlotte, We'll all be camping in the desert this weekend down at Ocotillo in the OHV rec area. It's about an hour and a half south of Joshua Tree. Details are on the SCAB site, you're signed up there, so you could find it through that. Or, you could find us here: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&g eocode=&q=Ocotillo+Wells,+CA&aq=0&sll=37.160317,-9 5.712891&sspn=58.119061,122.783203&ie=UTF8&hq=&hne ar=Ocotillo+Wells,+San+Diego,+California&ll=33.154 774,-116.149848&spn=0.001904,0.003747&t=h&z=19 Reindog and the Lighton Clan will be there, as will the infamous Jerry Johnson. You could show us how well Piglet can do doubles, triples and sand washes. We'll have beer and watch..... |

Char - YOU MUST GO to Ocotillo and meet THE MOB! FIND A WAY! Also, if you're planning on hitting some doubles and triples on Piglet - you'll need two clicks in on that rear shock to land properly with those loaded bags! |

Hi Char- Super cool that you are meeting us at Ocotillo Wells! You are going to have a great time as we all. There are many miles of desert to grind through. The weather is expected to be high 70's (day) and low 30's (night, brrrrr). The good news is that the wind is expected to be 3mph SW. Nothing ruins our desert adventures quicker than high winds. This is shaping up to be a nice weekend and you will probably get to meet the Terminator (not Arnold, we have our very own). Jerry Johnson and Kathlean will set up base camp Friday early followed by Al and Joanne Friday evening. Terminator and I are headed out Saturday morning. |

What a group ! ! . . . I haven't seen Jerry in years and . . if I saw him annually . . I'd never be able to thank him for all the good things he did for me when I was running all over the country on Buells. Jerry (along with that entire group) is a legend! Cool this is ! |

Char.... Mine is 760-685-3583, Joanne's is 760-305-3044. From Jerry's post on the SCAB site: Kathene & I will be in the Luv Shak with the American & Buell flags flying High and proud. There is no charge for camping here, and no Park fees. There is restrooms near camp, and showers by Ranger station. We will bring fire wood for the evenings. We will be camping on Main St. 1st road just east of Ranger Station, aprox. 1/2 mile. We haven't done our shopping for the trip yet, so if there's anything that you need us to bring out there for you, food or drink or otherwise, just let us know. We'll have several dirt bikes there for you to try when the Piglet is letting you down on the triples...Just picked up a new DRZ400E yesterday for the trip. Al |

At the very least your bike's clutch and attached attachments are very very close to the Sportster's, so if they can fix a Sportster clutch, they can fix your's too. Best of luck to ya! |

Char, glad your having a great time on the left coast!! Just to let you know, we got 2 inches of snow over and the promise of more in the forecast. The high today was 24*F and mostly cloudy. I rode the snowmobile to work for the 4th day in a row. We had a 4 car pile up out on the I with all 6 people coming to us to start the day. You are not missing much here. Could be worse, you could be on the right coast. Have fun and be safe!! |
