I have seen others change to chains without swapping out the swingarm on the XB's. Why couldn't it be done on our bikes? I believe the only piece that would be needed is a chain tensioner besides the chain, front, and rear sprocket.

Going chain drive on a bike with a fixed rear axle offers a host of problems.

I guess in theory you could get different size sprockets and use them as idlers where the idler pulley is today, but you are going to have to have some kind of adjustment capability to handle gearing changes, chain stretch, etc.

It's not going to be easy.

I thought about making one myself. Then I said why? I have a hard time holding it down in first and second. Why would i gear it higher? Isnt 178 enough? Then I rode with a couple guys that have chain drives. While riding I observed the noise. This R is rattly and loud as is why throw wax around and have more noise.

Did find some other threads about this same subject, but I haven't seen or read anyone even post a pic of a half a$$ idea. I do think it would work, but like everything it will have its disadvantages and perks.

Then I said why?

If it were affordable i would do it to fix the crazy high first gear on the R

Its fine for track duty but way to high for city riding

I run a tensioner on my belt. I would venture to say it should work with a chain also. Getting the right pressure may take a little testing.

You need more adjustment for a chain than just a tensioner.... chains stretch ALOT.... in the first ride alone.. on a 450 dirt bike... between that and the wearing of the sprockets, you would need adjustment... not the fixed axle...
