Installing a new battery today and I touched the positive to my sub frame for like a milisecond. Everything seems fine but I KNOW there are smart people here.... anything I should check? thanks, todd |

was the key on? did you hear any noises other than the spark? check fuses -they should have blown before dammage to the components happened |

I've done that before. lol. Melted one of the battery posts but the bike was fine. |

the big question - was the negative terminal grounded to the bike? if it wasn't, no juice flowed. however, I'm assuming you got a spark. Just check out that everything works, keep an ear open for how it's running to see if the ECU took a jolt or not |

I love this place. Thanks for the fast reply. Key not on, negative connected... seems fine. No codes. Didn't start it yet. Thanks, todd |

Re battery in the future, always: disconnect the negative cable first, then the positive; when installing, connect the positive first, then the negative. That way, the chance of accidentally sparking to ground is kept to a minimum. Incidentally (accidentally), that's how I got to be known as Sparky |

Connect the positive first.... now you know how I came up with the title of the thread! LOL |

Just curious on this one...how did you touch the positive to the subframe? Did you connect the terminals before you physically installed the battery? |

Glad the bike is OK. I have a 10mm box end wrench specifically for battery terminals. You can see the claw...and the box at the other end...and that's it. The rest of it is wrapped completely in electrical tape. Looks like a shiny black tennis racket grip. And, no welding |

My son swapped the battery on my bike connected it backwards. It ruined the fuel pump. |

We had a saying at a job I had: They put the smoke in at the factory. You can't put it back once you've let it out. |
