So, i dident ride my 1125 for 2 weeks over christmas. I generally ride it 2-3 times a week, about 30-50 miles round trip. now when i start it it just chugs and chugs and eventually turns over... i rode it 170 miles the other day and it still chugs. Im thinking the battery went bad... Any other ideas before i drop $100 on a new bat? |

Not sure if this applies, but my 1125 does not like being started in cold temperatures at all, similar to the symptoms you are explaining. Sometimes I have to run a turbo heater facing the bike for a while before it wants to start. |

The easiest way narrow it down is check the plugs, check air filter, and check the battery on a load tester. That in itself should eliminate those items off your list of things that can go wrong and the most common of the problems. |

do you have a battery tender? leaving the bike for a couple weeks even in the summer without charging it up on the tender produces a slow start for me too. you probably just need to charge it up. |

I have found it difficult to start mine without a full charge. A battery optimizer keeps it topped up well tho'. If it won't fire on the first few cranks, open the throttle full for a second. Leave it for 2 minutes for the battery to recover then try again. Generally starts ok 2nd or 3rd time. And hold in the clutch when starting cold. But as the manual suggests-it's best to have a fully charged battery: Check it with a multimeter... A previous post suggests that injectors don't fire correctly without a full charge. Voltmeter Test -------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Refer to Voltmeter Test. The voltmeter test provides a general indicator of battery condition. Check the voltage of the battery to verify that it is in a 100 percent fully charged condition. If the open circuit (disconnected) voltage reading is below 12.6V, charge the battery and then re-check the voltage after the battery has set for one to two hours. Voltmeter Test READING IN VOLTS - PERCENT OF CHARGE 12.7 %100 12.6 %75 12.3 %50 12.0 %25 11.8 %0 |

Cabby, I had pretty much the same thing happen to me. Take the Bat into a shop that can do a deep cycle charge to get the cold cranking amps back. My dealer did it for me free of charge. Depending how old your Battery is will make the difference as to weather or not it will work. My bat was only a 1 1/2 yrs old. And make sure your wife doesn't unplug your tender to use the extension cord for something else |

Since I believe in K.I.S.S..... ....you are waiting for the EFI/engine light to go out before you hit the start button, right? |

Correct. I took her out last night, threw her on the tender, after 10 minutes it indicated full charge... I did the manual spark plug cleaning... well see today if she fires right up. Couldent find my damn voltometer. |

Don't keep holding the starter if it fails to turn over after 3-4 seconds. Mine will always fire on the second try. |

One thing I learned after having to jump start Loretta a few times in late 2007. When starting an 1125, DON'T TOUCH THE THROTTLE!!!!!!!!! Sorry for screaming. These motors flood easier than anything I've seen before. Zack |
