Okay gents, I am about a year out before i can seriously consider getting an s2. I know the economy has changed things a bit in the last year with regards to the price of our Buells, but I am curious as to what you guys think the price will be and how difficult it will be to find a good solid running s2? I would really prefer an s2t if I can find one. looking forward to hearing from ya! Just getting the wife ready (Message edited by dstaff on December 21, 2010) |

Bikes in general will tend to come out of the woodwork in late winter to early spring. It's worth checking all the craigslists now, but know that you will find riper pickings in the spring. Downside: the owners will want more, being spring. Have $3K ready, with some reserve just in cast the right S2T with all the extras and upgrades and maintenance items you want comes along. Miles on the odometer does not tell the whole story, not even close. |

I agree with Fahren about the $3k and there's more to the value than the miles. As far as the T, think about what you're really looking for. Maybe another $500 for the T? I don't have personal experience, but I get the impression that the bags may open randomly. Will you definitely want S2 bags and make some mods or will you prefer to modify the bike to S3 bags(that's probably another $800). The S2 bags are made for the bike and look better. If you want the functionality of the S3 bags there's no need to look for a T version. This spring will be interesting. At one point it seemed like very few showed up for sale. Once I bought a basket case it seemed they started coming out of the woodwork, and really showed up after the closing announcement. |

There is an absolutely beautiful S2 T in California. The bike was originally owned by the shop forman at the San Francisco HD Buell dealer. He moved to Atlanta and sold to Barry from ASBN. It is a cool Blue with white wheels, frame, etc. excellent condition, hardly ever ridden. He is wanting to sell. Probably one of the best original ones out there. It will not be cheap though. I am thinking he is wanting around 4500 to 5000 for it. I believe it comes with the Bags and is a T. I could try and reach him, if you are interested. REX The actual bike was featured in one of those coffee table books about Harley Davidson. The large books that weighs about 5 lbs and sits on your coffee table. they contain the whole history of HD. There was a buell section in the book, and this S2 was featured. If you have the bike, you need the book too. I am building up a second S2. It is almost complete. Red on white with Pm wheels. It is looking pretty good. I also have parts to almost complete another S2. Just needing the motor. I have most of the other parts. REX |

I have found that spending a little bit more on an S2 from a person who is in the 'know' saves a lot of pain and expense than getting a deal from someone who isn't (HD/sport bike types). Things like an over tightened belt, 'unneeded mods', etc. can make what seems like a great deal turn into a real pain and cost more than the bike's original price to fix. If everything was right, I would not flinch at spending $4,500 for a well cared for and updated S2. Look in the parts catalog, the 1-2k you save now gets eaten very quickly in little, silly parts. Just my .02 cents, having been down that path already. Zen |

Very true. I paid 4,500 for my S2T from a great Bueller. I would do it again in a heart beat. If I were to sell my S2T it would not be for 4,500 or even 10,000. It is worth much more to me than the sum of its parts. |

Thanks for the inputs. Rex, that is something that I would be interested in a few months, just not now. $$$$ being the biggest issue. I found this S2 http://orangecounty.craigslist.org/mcy/2162363576.html but the input about not being cheap has got me doing some second thoughts again thanks (Message edited by dstaff on January 21, 2011) |

Rex, I know this is a long ways away for me, depending on deployment schedule and $$$$, but just keep me in mind if your buddy is willing to wait awhile to sell his s2 Thanks |

Also remember that S2(t)'s are rare as bikes go, so well-maintained and updated ones are rarer still. You can wait until you find one for more $, or you can get a reasonably priced one and factor in repairs/mods per your own spec, and just know that time and money will be spent, quite probably before any significant riding will take place. |
