I think I posted this once before and didnt come up with much, dont remember though. Here is the issue 99 S3 Its more prominent on the shifter side, but still present slightly on brake side. The foot peg wobbles quite a bit. I put a small rubber washer in there to take up some slack, but then when I tightened it the shifter didnt want to move, was restricted. The problem I am having is that with it being so loose the linkage moves too much and doesnt always move smoothly, the gear changes dont always work (using air shifter, drag bike) Please, I need help on this bad, its really affecting my motorcycle, I need more consistency. If I wasnt clear or you have more questions to help determine a fix, please do not hesitate to ask. I really appreciate any help or advice you all can give. thank you |

use either a brass, bronze, or nylon shimming washer instead. |

that the only option? Am I the only one with this issue or is it common? |

I think its fairly common, and the way its made, the footpeg can only slide so far into to its recess, so shimming the shifter is actually just a normal option. |

These are for an X1, but I'm pretty sure they're the same as the S3, but don't hold me to it. Brake and Shifter bushings are the same #. See below:

Take the peg off, replace the plastic bushing. While it's off, scrape off the paint from the frame where it contacts the moving bits. Grease the shaft and reinstall. You should be able to tighten the nut without binding the shifter or brake. |

Al has a small kit that includes bronze bushings and washers designed specifically for this purpose. I bought it over year ago and is still holding up real well. It eliminates most if not all the slack. I thought it was a tad pricey (~$35) but still well worth it given the available options. |

I bought new bushing from dealership, but they look in about the same condition as whats in the bike. I'll swap them out anyway and see if that does it. Thanks guys! If it doesnt work I'll call up Al or go to the hardware store to look for some teeny tiny shims to put in there. |

When I installed mine (factory) they were tight. I greased them up. They eventually broke in. I tried getting the ones from Al a year or so ago. They were not avail. |

Old style shifter is super sloppy. If you decide you're still not comfortable with the way it all works get the new shifter and carefully toss (so it doesn't come back) your boomerang shifter into the recycle bin. The new style shifter mounts using one of the primary cover allen screws. Then you can tighten up the foot peg so you feel like it's securely on the bike. 'Course that won't help your brake side, but it's something. |

Put the plastic bushing (new) in....not much help. I'll be calling up Al in the morning (well HIS AM, it'll be lunch for me) I've GOT to get this sorted out, and super quick. I'd wanted to swap to the later style linkage before, but for the money, I cant justify it. Especially since I'd have to redo my airshifter setup = more work, trial and error to get the correct adjustment. I really do appreicate yalls advice. I'll be calling Al (as advised) as well as trying to find some really really thin shims tomorrow (as advised) Again, thanks And please dont hesitate to add if you have more info HMP |
