There was a break in the rain and I went for a ride with some friends last night. when we arrived at the destination I noticed the front brake master cylinder had droplets of oil on and around the top plate. oil had blown back to the frame and plastics. The brakes still work but I decided to save them, I was down shifting a lot more than usual going home (thank you stock ECM IAC).

In over 100K miles on Buells this has never happened to me. I blew the seal? I called Latus HD, my issues were noted and seal ordered.

Does anyone know if there a UJM or Ducati seal I can use to put me back on the road now?

THX

With the bike on a chock, I found the 2 screws for the master cylinder front brake cover loose, it took very little to loosen them. I cleaned both surfaces. The fluid was 1/2 down, the seal looked OK to me so I just put it back together and tightened it up. Those 2 screws are shorter than the S1's setup.

I checked the clutch, its screws were not very tight either. I'll be getting some DOT 4 tomorrow and bring them up to 3/4 full.

They aren't supposed to be very tight. If you tighten then to much, then it can leak.

Bueller4ever - THX, good to know.

Small fine steel threads into aluminum suggests danger. A little anti-sieze and I snugged it up better than it was, leaking is too loose. When the rain lets up I will find out how well I did.

I buy the counter-sunk socket types... like these:

http://www.fastener-express.com/m4-x-7-x-14mm-flat -head-cap-screw-aluminum-qty-50.aspx

(I think this is the right size... measure before you order!)

Uses a 2.5mm drive, I think. I never tighten it more than what I can do with the short end of the allen key and two fingers.

After adding some dot4 I put the master cylinder cap back on it was dry, the top of the plastic reinforcement was dry.

I went for a test ride last night.

When I got back there was some leakage from the outside weep hole. I took the cap off it was wet, the plastic was wet on top too. The seal appears to be blown.
