Well what with one thing and another (mainly being so stressed at work I am too tired to da ANYTHING when I get home) I finally actually made a start on the flat bar conversion for my 1125R..
I know the risers look slight askew (they are) but they're only on there loosely for now and I have tested the alignment etc with the bars fitted and they're going to be fine. I already have the CR High Bar kit for the clutch/brake lines and throttle cables (but looking at it I may not actually need them if I just rerun the existing trottle cables) I went for a set of Renthal drag bars in the end, in theory it should keep almost the same "angle" as the clipons but raise them a couple of inches and move them back by about the same. I am only doing this as (a) I am getting a bit too old for the more radical "sportsbike" riding position and (b) I always do this to my bikes and it always seems to improve the low speed control of the bike (for me). With the double bubble fitted I don't anticipate losing too much off the top end, maybe 10MPH as it'll impact the aerodynamics a little. It'll take me a while to get around to doing the rest of the install but at least I've started! (one New Year's resolution ticked off) |

Issues with mine the bars hit mirrors but since mirrors are no use will be changing them need to swap windscreen as im way up in the wind also reset the suspension since unloaded the front and loaded more weight on rear |

I have the CR and installed the high bar kit. I did find the replacement cables were about an inch too long and very sensitive to the route they took from bars to engine. |

Ratgin I did originally plan to use a set of bars very similar to those in your pic. I could see the issue with the mirror but don't think I need worry about that as I have a backup camera and screen installed so only use the mirrors for the indicators which I can easily swap out. I went for some flat/drag bars instead and my only concern now is that on full lock the bar controls are going to be pretty close to the airbox cover, but if that does present a challenge I can always chage to "superbike" style bars with a slight rise in them |

What top yoke are you using there? Mine's just a spare 1125R one that I cut the bar mounts off and ground down/drilled.. It xost about $25 IIRC |

One of the guys here custom built it for me. Same sorta issues. Older now and bad neck from a wreck when i was young , dumb and immortal just need to fix the seat up next. Same wreck broke my pelvis and that vinyl wrapped plastic and it dont get along well. (Message edited by ratgin on January 09, 2011) |

I used the R triple. Just drilled some holes in it, and mounted up the risers. They are a little different now. I put some 1/4 inch spacers in to lift them a bit.
6 degreee drag bars. Angled up a bit. This is on an XB12R, but kinda the same concept.\

Gunut 75 says <Just drilled some holes in it, and mounted up the risers. So, where did you get the risers? Oh, and cool username... |

I made the risers. They are a mock-up piece that I had to make a few shims to get them to the right height. I will make final pieces that will get anodized when it's all said and done. |

Last year I installed a set of ABM bars. I was able to reposition the bars ~3" to the rear and ~1.25" higher. Grüße aus Ostfriesland Hans |

Those look great Hans. I'm having trouble with where the throttle cable exits the throttle/switch assembly. I don't want to kink the cable. I may have to go to an alternative system. |

Gunut75 - where is the cable kinking? On the last conversion I did (ZX9R) I ran the throttle "upside down" so the cables came out on top and crossed between the capnut and tank.. On the Buell I don't think I'll have the same issue as there seems to be a fair bit of space and a choice of routes to take. I may have more choice thou as i have cut the old bar mounts off the yoke which seems to free up a lot of space for the cables.. |

I did cut the bar mounts off yesterday (point of no return). If you look at the bike from the right side, the throttle cables exit the switch/throttle housing at about 7 o'clock, parallel to the bar. Where my handlebars are, this puts the exit of the cables right into the right fork tube. With the adjusters on the cable, it only has an inch or so to make a 30 degree bend. Makes the throttle work like poo. There are tons of throttles available, and I will find one. The new Kawi ZX-10 has one that looks like it would work. The cables on that one exit right at about 1-2 o'clock. I would then use an aftermarket switch housing with the start and kill switch on it. I would take the housing off of the throttle, and use MY tube to maintain the ratio of rotation of the grip to the throttle body. If I had to quicken it up a hair (less rotation on the grip to reach full throttle), I wouldn't mind that either. |

In that case I may well hit exactly the same snag... I think I'll look for another ZX9R right hand set (throttle and kill/start switch) as they're effectively two seperate items so I'd have a lot more flexibility over where the throttle cables need to exit. I think i need to trial fit it all first though and then see what further mods are needed... You know of course that slightly higher bars would've alieviated that issue LOL |

Gunut75 On my '08 bike all the lines are extended. The hydraulic lines are handmade, the throttle cabels are from the CR and the electrical wiring, I have extended by myself. Grüße aus Ostfriesland Hans |

Jules, thats exactly what I'm thinkin. Hans, I noticed the CR lines have a bend coming out of the throttle/switch housing. I wonder if the lines are compatible with the XB. I also had an idea (crazy; maybe a little stoopid) to put in the separate throttle and electrical controls, like on the ZX9. I'm thinkin a single kill switch, stand alone throttle control, and a 1/2 inch diameter start button located somewhere on the triple tree. Just for fun. Maybe I will, maybe I wont. |

My 96 S1 has 96K miles. Most of those miles have been with drag bars. Moving from drag bars to the 09 CR clubman bar took some time. The steering was so quick, it took some getting used to! I now like the CR bars better. |
