The gasket is a stock H-D(spit) item, in other words you can get it anywhere V-Twin motorcycle parts are sold, just don't tell them what it is for other wise they will not have the part. Tell them it is for a 91 Sportster 1200/883 it doesn't matter......Just what ever you do do not tell them it is for a Buell Blast. Make sure the old gasket is completly removed, it is a leaded woven wire type and when it is compressed it looks like cylinder head material, when you look in the exhaust port you should see a squared recess cut where the gasket sits. |

Concur! Concur!! You can get them cheap at a lot of online places, but then you'll pay $6-$9 to have it shipped Its just an "evo exhaust gasket". Fits all HD models (except V-Rod) 1986- 2010! |

Thanks. That's a 1983 Harley part number so its available anywhere Harley parts are sold and will be in stock (that gasket or equivalent). Though there are several different styles of gasket available, if it fits an EVO Harley, it fits a Blast! On Harley part numbers the -83 usually indicates the first year the part was used with the letter suffix indicating a later edition (or update) of that part. ....it should be noted that the first EVO Harley's didnt appear until 1985 (Big Twin) and 1986 for the XL (Sportster). So the suffix number/year doesnt always denote model year, but it often does. The EVO engine was certainly well on its way to being in production as of 1983. There you go. Thats way more information than needed for a simple gasket question, but not nearly as much as could be written!!! |

My Blast is Leaking allot of oil from the front of the engine above the exhaust. Where is it leaking from? Is the head gasket blown. The bike was standing for a while before i got it. after i started riding it the leak started. Is this something i could fix by myself or do i need some professional help. |

Welcome to the Thumper Forum Moto3P What you are probably looking at is a rocker box gasket leak. The 2001 Blast had a paper rocker box gasket. The new ones are made out of a rubber coated metal material. To be sure what it is clean it up the best you can and run it for a while, then take the fuel tank off and look close for where it is coming from. Good luck and let us know what you find. |

.......but more than likely, thats what it is. Its very common. How many miles on your Blast? And welcome! |

I think I have the same issue, but have not done the gas tank removal inspection. I just check my oil at least once a week, but usually after every ride home (time permitting). I generally add a little each time. Resolving that is on my list. |

Has anyone tried a muffler from Megs? If you go to http://www.coneeng.com/ and click on motorcycle parts, they have a pdf of different sizes. There's one that goes from 1.75" to 3.25" to 2". Part #MC-1750-12-SS. It's a stainless steel cone/reverse cone. You'd still need a header, but you could use a Jardine or V&H. If I remember correctly, Megs made the Force mufflers. |

You have no idea how loud a Force exhaust is, big twins would look with shock and awe - lol - awesome top end power, and if you weld in a choke of 1 5/8" length with a 1 1/2" id right after the the lip by 1/4" you would regain that bottom end and still have an awesome top end - as TP's custom header shows with similar specs, but a better bend solution for keeping velocity high. Cool link - Thanks! EZ (Message edited by ezblast on February 10, 2011) |

Lou, you are correct, the first "Force" tuber pipes had Megs stamped on the main cone. I know of 2 or three here in Mpls. They are all on S2's. On a single, they are even louder than a twin. Way too loud in my opinion for a street pipe. |

Ed, do you have pictures of how your muffler is mounted underneath the bike? I know it's not the same, but it would give me an idea how and where things need to go. |

Mine is also a permanent part of this page - so if you scroll up slowly you'll see it also, including the mounting - especially the mounting - since the tabs did not reach the muffler bracket. I just got some 1/16 bar flat stainless 1" and measured, cut, and drilled the tab extension to the muffler bracket cage. EZ |

Thanks, Ed. I've got some thinking to do. Too bad the bike's being sold to one of my wife's employees. It'll be his first bike, and I want it to be an awesome one. You know, get him started on the Dark Side with cookies, and he'll never go to the Light Side. |

I just put a new Vance and Hines on my 01 Blast. The carb is jetted at 175/45. It ran great on a few short trips, and on a 65 mile run. This morning it would not start. It turned over but did not pop at all. It was getting fuel and spark so I checked compression by covering the air intake. As soon as i covered the intake, it chugged a few times then started up. After that it ran fine for 35 miles. After stopping for fuel it started up with no problems and ran fine for another 30. Any idea what caused the trouble this morning? I hadn''t ridden it for about 2 months before putting on the new exhaust. |

Very nice! You remembered to use the stock front lower hardware, or buy and use new front lower stock hardware for the Jardine? I hope so, or the vibrations will kill the header and can in a 1000 to 3000 miles. I hope you have a fork brace happening also, with that SS braided front brake line, or the front will want to trade places with the back on wet days. Especially with those Dunlops - ditch them before you hurt yourself or the bike - which looks nice! EZ (Message edited by ezblast on June 15, 2011) |

Stock front rubber header/engine mounts in place. I didn't like the idea of the rigid aluminum cone spacers Jardine provided. Nels |

ok so my h&h can took a dump on me. i didnt have the money for another system so i bought a 16 inch turnout muffler from jc whitney. bike idles great but when riding it sputters until i get close to redline then takes off and i lost about 10mph off the top end. i am thinking carb needs to be adjusted. the new muffler is 2 1/4 od and has a steel baffle in it. any other ideas? and yes i have checked the boot. bike was jetted for running v&h exhaust and i have a pro series intake |

i think ill figure something else out before doing that. i like the way it sounds now. there has got to be something else i can do. it almost seems like if i adjust the carb some it would work better. near redline at full throttle its runs better then ever. but low and mid range it sputters and falls flat on its face. makes me think it needs more fuel. |
