Hi All, I was considering getting my bike tuned this winter since it seems to pop A LOT with my drummer exhaust. Does anyone know of any specific place they would trust around NY/NJ/CT? Would tuning solve this issue? I know it's been discussed a lot, but I would like to solve this if tuning would in fact do that. |

Popping WHEN? If it happens when you roll off, it MAY be a bad header flange gasket in one or both exhaust ports - possibly even a cracked header (tho that's pretty rare) |

Tell them to check the exhaust system to make sure its solid and if ok. Add or remove fuel at 5% throttle 1500-5000 rpm. I fix this problem all the time on bikes at work |

Don't think it's anything loose. The bike is a 2010 bought new in June. I installed the drummer, and I know this is common, as it happens on my 2004 as well. And yeah, pops on decel, and more so on hot days. |

Call Andy at http://www.simonscompetition.com/ They are a site sponsor and do some generally amazing work. I've seen Andy's work, and I'm impressed. In-house machining, welding, building, tuning. In fact, he did a lot of work on Jake's bike...another Badwebber who I cannot remember the exact username. |

Hammer and 1324, Both are great recommendations, so thank you. Greatly appreciated. I'll look into both of them. |

Ivans is not that far away from me, so it seems perfect. Again, thanks. From being on this blog for years, I know if you recommend it, it shall be good. |

Not sure if Ivan tunes Harley motors?? I know Liberty HD/Buell (board sponsor)has a dyno and does tunes. |

Well, apparently Liberty stopped tuning Buells, but they said if I had a pre-mapped race ECM they would put it on the dyno. Ivan's can't do it without a power commander (?), so I am not sure what my other options are. I really would like to get the bike dialed in to compensate for the constant popping from my Drummer exhaust. Any other recommendations/advice would be great. |

Get a Erik Buell Racing ecm, best bang for your buck,2010's are not tuneable with the old ECM-Spy and have not tried a new PC-5. |

Yeah, I've tried them awhile back, but they don't make the ecm for the xb9s, only the 12s. Seems I may be SOL... |

Who doesn't make an ECM for the 9? E B Racing most certainly does. You MUST call the person who is going to be doing the tuning. If you just have the "race module" on your bike, the most they can do is a couple of pulls on the dyno to see if you're off. They may not be able to do anything for you if it IS off... unless they've worked with the particular tuning system on your bike. If they haven't worked with your tuning system, I doubt they're going to want to learn how to work a Buell-specific hack (like ECM Spy) - when maybe once or twice a year, they MIGHT have another customer with similar interest. CALL FIRST. No sense showing up only to find that they can only offer a couple dyno pulls but can't re-program your ECM if needed. |

I emailed Erik Buell Racing, and they said they do not make a race module for the 2010 xb9. But as you mention, even with a module, every place I called said they could not do much for me. I figured if a place locally has worked with a similar bike it would not be an issue, but I am not that familiar with tuning and what is entailed. I just wanted to see if the popping would be resolved with proper tuning. |

Oh? DDFI3 can run 2008 and newer. Sets you back $750 but is truly, fully programmable. If something changed, it's news to me. IF you mean, they don't sell the "plug-and-play" ECM for the bike, yeah, I get it but the DDFI3 Full Race Module SHOULD be available still. |

This may sound a bit off but my 06xb12ss would pop alot on decel and I dropped the plug gap from 038 to 036 I think I know it was 002 and it greatly deminished that problem. |
