Does anyone know what the 12K service costs? I'm over 10K and if I wait til next year I'll have to do it inthe middle of the season. Problem is I dont have the dough at the moment and I would think its gonna be pricey. Heres another question, is there a way that I or a knowledgeable shop could perform the service and keep my warranty in tact? | ||

Do it yourself, save the cash? It's just time consuming to do it. 2.5 hours to remove all the stuff and rotate the engine down, 1/2 hr to check valves, same time to button it back up. I did mine early this year, spread it over 3 days to rotate, get shims and put it together again. I'm thinking the local dealers were quoting $500 or so, plus parts to do it. Shop rate here is about $90/hr and then throw in parts, ie; shims if needed, spark plugs and the oil change. I spent $55 for shims, another $15 or so for the plugs and I had the filter and oil on hand already. | ||

Me too. Plus...I don't trust any dealers. If I need special tools for anything...I either make or buy them as required. Mike | ||

Yeah, at least $500. buy a Service Manual and do it yourself. Not complicated just time consuming. | ||

San Diego Buell charged me $580 for the 12k service. | ||

And if you do the service to spec, it does not void the warranty. | ||

yea thats kinda what i figured...over $500 and I would have to trust an hd dealer to work on it. nah. I'll do it, i'll just take my time. Thanks for the responses. I guess I would just take pics during the service to verify that it was done within spec. Dean, I'm sure we'll be in contact anyway so I may pick ur brain a lil when it comes time to do it if thats ok witcha. | ||

anyone got list of parts needed for valve adjustment(not including shims) | ||

Oil filter, oil, spark plugs and shims unless you break something while you're in there. The valve follower/finger retainer would be the only real part I'd be concerned about since it's hard plastic or whatever it's made from. Valve cover gaskets are reusable as long as you don't tear or cut them, they're rubber. | ||

Don't forget a new breather element and o-ring for the oil screen. Always check the oil pick-up screen when you change the oil, it's dead-center-bottom gotta drop the muffler to get it. Z | ||

Buy them individually. There isn't a kit AFAIK. |
