Folks, it looks like the cooling fan on my new 1125R stays on most of the time... I find this pretty surprising because it's quite cold these days here (about 5°C, say 40°F...)... cooler temperature is reported as 80°C, say 175°F... | ||

30 degree F nights around here (before the snow flew) mine would come on too. That is the way it's programmed in the stock ECM. Don't worry...be happy to have such an awesome bike! | ||

Last I looked, the fans came on around 175 *F and went off at 164. Even loafing on a cool day the fans will come on. Thermostat opens around 160-165 IIRC. No books, all memory, so check. Even if I go out to the garage and find the books, mine are first edition 2008 revs and a lot of little things are different now. Fan logic has changed a couple of times in ECM Rev flashes, there are times only one fan will be running and there are 2 or 3 speeds now. The fans will run a LOT more and longer in the Summer, try to keep your speed up it helps. My 1125R is cooler to ride than my Uly tho, especially in crosswinds if that helps any. Zac, the right fan turns off around 164F. The left stays on until 150F or so. Being that, I've never seen my left turn off while the bike was running once it came on. | ||

But the point is...the fans are triggered by COOLANT temp, not AMBIENT temp. Remember, Buellers...these are a different breed. The fan doesn't cool the *engine*, it cools a *radiator*, which is full of coolant that has reached a certain temperature because you're riding the motorcycle. Think about your car. Unless you drive an original Beetle, a 914, or a 911...your car acts exactly the same way. Its a *fan*, folks...go ride and stop overthinking it. |
