I have been to every local parts store in my area but no one carries a battery for the R. Where do you guy get your batteries. I am trying to avoid going to Harley.

Batteries Plus should have something that cross references. Cycle gear might also

If you don't mind dropping some coin, Erik Buell Racing sells a lightweight battery.

You can get an "8 cell" from Carbon Speed as well. That's what I use.

Did you take the battery with you, or just look it up in their database?
If not take it with you next time and match it up with one they do have, you might even be able to do this at Wal-Mart or Sears.

My guess is Erik Buell Racing might even have some OEM take-offs setting around for a reasonable price, you might want to contact them.

Some of the online stores have some reasonable batteries too...just do a Google search.

The shipping cost on an OEM battery will likely eat up any advantage buying a discounted one could provide.

Those things are crazy heavy.

Yuasa YTX14-BS
Fay Meyers (shipping point = Colorado)has them for $80 - free shipping over $75 sale - I believe Aprilia uses the same battery

amazon link:
http://www.amazon.com/YUASA-YTX14-BS-Maintenance-F ree-Battery/dp/B000WJX4BQ/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_3?ie=UTF8 &qid=1293655469&sr=1-3-fkmr0

just ordered one myself - hope to have it Friday -good luck!

WHOA! - IT SEEMS THE P/N YTX14L shows as the correct application according to Yuasa - the one I received today was a YTX14 ( no "L") - the polarity is reversed- ( + and - on the wrong side of the battery) - other sellers on amazon show the correct P/N (YTX14L) but their pictures show the polarity also as being reversed - if you consider buying a Yuasa battery - you may want to contact the seller to verify the orientation of the (+)and (-) terminals - the correct orientation is (+) on the right and (-) on the left when viewed from the front of the battery.

The local wally world where I live does carry SLA batteries for motorcycles. I can't speak to application, but it can't hurt to pop in and see if one will work.

Have you had the latest flash done? Early 2008s had a battery drain issue. Is your bike still under warranty? Should be covered.

I was told that the battery drain issue on early 2008's were due to a fault in the Instrument Cluster. So that needs to be replaced. The Re-Flash won't cure that.

Meh - easier (and cheaper) to just plug it into a battery tender every couple of days.

As a side question, why do you need a replacement battery?

Rogue, you might be right, I knew there was something messing with the battery with the 2008.

I got a extra battery that you can have for free. Just pay for shipping. I have a 1125r and brought a new battery cause I thought I needed one....I Didn't. It was the stator. So now I'm looking at a paper weight. You can have it if you want it. You can't beat free

Damn, thanks for all the info everyone. FYI Harley charges $108.00 for their basic battery with a 6 month warranty. I think I am going to go with the suggestion that Nuts4mc provided. Thanks again!

That's a lead acid battery in tipsters link. They may call them main free, but they still use acid fluid and seal. Now, that is fine an dandy, unless that seal fails and now you have battery acid spilling because remember, our batteries sit on their side. Batteries Plus has maint free batteries that are AGM which is what we use. It costs less that the HD ones, but does cost more than the $23 one tipster posted.

I'm not shilling for that battery, was just astounded at the price when I did a search. It does sorta worry my HOW they can charge 1/3 the price....

Will a different type battery help with the problem of too weak to start battery while in town errand running? You know, the stop to get fuel, then money from the atm, then a burger then the call to someone to come give you a jump start.

Sport bikes like sport cars have stiffer suspensions. off roaders step up to stiffer suspensions. These groups all buy the better AGM batteries. shock is hard on batteries some think AGM may short out less. IDK.

Sealed batteries lose life sitting on the shelf. The freshness of the battery can be just as important as the engineering.

Now it is Lithium Iron.. cool

The batteries I sell at the shop are H-D AGM.
AGM - Absorbed Glass Mat, is still a lead-acid battery, BTW.
We keep 6 or 7 sizes on hand, XL-VRSC-Buell are the smallest, FLHTCUTGXLHIUG baggers/trikes are the biggest.

Bagger batteries last 9-11 years, our Buell's little batteries last 4-7 years.
I always ask how old the dead battery is, still remember being happy I got 2 or 3 seasons out of an Interstate battery in the late 70s.

My battery only lasted 2 years. It seemed to drain at a faster rate once I installed the Erik Buell Racing ecm. I would have loved to have gotten 3 to 4 years out of the first battery.

I am convinced the factory ECM keeps the battery at a higher state of charge.

I'm going to try one of the EB Racing Lithium batteries next. I contacted them and they said they'd been used successfully on street bikes and that they can ship international by air.
