This is premature, as I just pulled the hurt engine out of my '92 RS, but I noticed the cush drive rubbers for the rear chain sprocket are oval-shaped and a few have cracks. My dealer has been great about tracking parts, but does anybody have a source for these before I put him to work doing something someone might have at the tip of their fingers? Should I be concerned about certain aspects of the physical appearance? |

I'm feeling a little like an orphan here. Picture of my cush rubbers:
Can anybody advise on a source for replacements or the type of material they're made of if I'm left to fend for myself? |

i'd try letting court know, he will probably know the source, and how many are still around. |

I got spares from EFB Designs, don't know if they're still around. I thought I saw a thread on this a while ago. |

At least they look like they can be easily reproduced. Just find some appropriate material...shouldn't be too hard to find. McMaster-Carr sells tubing in a wide variety of sizes and materials...all you need to know is the approximate durometer of the original material and take a look at the physical properties...they sell Polyurethane tubing with a durometer of Shore A of 60...which approximates the durometer of a car tire. But it would be best to find out what the originals are made of. (Message edited by fast1075 on December 14, 2010) |

Thanks for the feedback, guys. I checked for threads on the topic and found only very limited info, but no sources. Re; EFB Designs: Where DID they exist? I've seen them referenced elsewhere for older items, but no phone numbers, etc. Re; McMaster-Carr: I can get the durometer of the current rubbers, but have no assurances it's what a NEW rubber would measure, but it IS a starting point. Good call. Stay tuned. |

WE'll know today . . . memory seems to indicate that there may be ONE set left. If so, it becomes your responsibility to study it and find a current source so we can make some more. Hehehehe . . just kidding. I'll know later today when we get time to look and I;ll get back to you. |

Thanks, Court. FWIW: I did check and the material has a durometer of 95...at least for the funky old inserts that are probably significantly harder now than they were 18+ years ago. |

I can wait. I have an engine to rebuild in the meantime, so I'll have a few other things to do. Re; Jumpsuit: I'll keep my eyes open. You might want to keep yours shut! I stopped wearing jumpsuits in the 70's! |

The '90 is operational after some TLC, but needs some tweeking/tuning and some cosmetics. I have the title from the original owner and wince about getting it transferred to my name. Seems like there would be some history lost there, but I want to ride it, so... The '92 is scheduled for an autopsy tomorrow. |
