So i just had an interesting experience. I drove home to chillicothe this weekend where my bike is stored and decided to start it up. Well when i went into the freezing garage, the throttle was stuck closed. Turned over but would putt out because it just couldn't get any extra little twist to start or rev. So what do i do? i get a hair dryer and start hitting all the cables/handle/assembly of the throttle. Still stiff. So i grab the throttle and it starts moving ever so slightly. but still just stuck there. the grip was just sliding on the handle. So i go back inside for some lunch and figure i would try again. So i turned the key, kill switch on, my thumb is on the starter. Crank crank crank VROOOO WAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH WIDE OPEN!!! i was caught on the "o crap what do i do" i flipped the key. moved the "grip" back to original spot and it started right back up and eased my nerves. So what i learned was the grip was not sliding. it was opening the throttle little by little. Once it warmed up it brought the throttle back to normal feel. I really just wanted to hear that drummer one last time before the polar bear run. |

I got both mine up and running yesterday after swapping to some winter weight oil. The Lightning (been sitting for about 5 weeks on the tender) started right up running perfect! The Uly (been sitting for about 3 weeks, no tender) started on only one cylinder. I killed it, did the spark plug cleaning procedure a few times, and started it again. Still one cylinder. Since there's no catalytic converter to get clogged, I decided to let it idle on one cylinder for awhile to get some heat in it. After 5 minutes or so I went at the throttle, holding 2k rpm for awhile, then 3k. Eventually after some serious back firing the front cylinder kicked in, and it began running perfect. Took each bike out on a 15 mile loop, which they both ran flawlessly on, and parked them. Looking forward to the polar bear ride! |

Anyone interested in going to a gun show after the ride? Westland mall, $7 per person admission (with dollar off coupon from the website). I'm in the market for one of two hard to find pieces, and am considering swinging by. |

Good times! 4 Buell's showed up to the damp polar bear ride. i love me some guns! so what you lookin for? What I was mainly going for was a Kel-Tec PF-9. Super small, single stack 9mm, for concealed carry. They're popular, and very hard to find at gun stores, so I was hoping the show would have one. They did and I picked it up for the price I was expecting. I left with the new gun, an inside-the-waistband holster, an ankle holster, a 50ct pack of +P Hollow Point defense ammo, and a 25 pack of paper targets, all for about $350. I'm happy! It's a tiny little lightweight guy. Easily concealable in a regular pocket (with a pocket holster) or with one of the other above listed holsters. Next firearm purchase will be either a 22 semiauto plinker; I like the Baretta Neos or Smith and Wesson 22a. Or what I really like the looks of, a Taurus 905. Snub nose revolver, in a 9mm caliber! How cool is that?! That'll have to wait a bit tho. I try to keep it to one firearm purchase a year. In theory at least. (Message edited by Mikef5000 on January 01, 2011) |

Good deal Mike. Thats a nice little smokewagon. My old boss used to carry a Kel-Tec 380 in his front pocket. Sweet little pistol.... I just sold my Glock 27 and bought a Ruger LCR in .38. Even with our pricing at Vance's it came to about $450 with the ankle holster but man is it lighter than the 27! |

This is what I carry. Springfield Armory XD .45, holds 14 rounds. The only thing I don't like about carrying a 9mm is they fly too fast and will go through a target without damaging too much. The .45 will remove pieces and or knock it down.... Shoots very nice as well. I have carried this several times while riding my R, no issues with carry. Has trigger and grip safety. Has a pin or nub that barely sticks out of the back when it is ready to fire in case you need to feel for it in the dark. Also has a piece that sticks up on the top so you know a round is in the chamber.

The only thing I don't like about carrying a 9mm is they fly too fast and will go through a target without damaging too much. Yup, That's why I bought a pack of hollow points for carrying. They work much better for this purpose. I've got a gun similar in size to yours as well; a S&W Sigma 9mm. It's impossible to hide on my 135 lb person though. I needed something significantly thinner. |
