I loved watching this. If there was any doubt about performance of production cars (can you call a $289,000 Ferarri a production car?) versus our 2-wheel marvels of engineering, this video should put it all to rest. I was personally surprised about the racetrack performance. Very surprised. I am wondering if that Ferrari had the electronics turned up so high that it actual slowed down the professional driver.} |

No offense to the testers but that is not the fastest production Ferrari out there. This would be like saying F22 Raptor beats Bugatti Veyron. They are comparing Apples and Astronauts. The only commonality they posses is that they are both 'earthly'. Great video, poor test standards. Next time test a 1190RR. Just a thought... (Message edited by dieseldreamer on December 19, 2010) |

Huh? Maybe its not the fastest Ferrari but to say its like comparing a jet to a production supercar is a little harsh. It's still a $300,000 exotic and 13 times the price of the the Duc and 20 times the price of a Japanese literbike |

The ferrari's maintenance bill would probably cost more then the ducati in a few years. I would love the ferrari, but for the price, sport bikes are the cheapest way to go fast. |

The Ferrari maintenance bill for the first year (if you include tires) would be higher than the purchase cost of the Ducati.... and don't even consider depreciation into that! Hell my $120000 Jag (my wife bought it for me for my birthday) costs £200 a tyre (for the cheapest I can live with) and rear tires last 3k if i leave the traction control off.. It also depreciated by $60k in the first year...LOL The 7 miles per gallon hasn't helped LMAO |

I have a couple of buddies at the track that race everything from the Miata to the boxter to cup cars and Ferrari. Cars, in general, are insanely expensive. In particular at the high end, you can expect to need to service the clutch every few race weekends, and can expect it to cost $10k-$30k. Your tires last no longer than a motorcycle, and cost $3-5k a set. Your brake pads and rotors out perform a motorcycle in every way, including the cost to keep them. Cars are, simply put... out. of. my. league. You need to be a wealthy man to play with such hardware, and not just the purchase price. As was said, the upkeep on those machines is killer. It's neat to see bikes develop to the point the chassis and tires are able to run with the finest 4-wheeled machines (well, except open wheel). |

Most of the "options" on supercars are for them to take stuff off... The more you ask them to remove, the more they charge you. They label it "weigh saving" and charge you $4000 to remove the stereo and fit a carbon cover in its place. No carpets sir, that'll be $6000 extra... It's really weird! |

The "exotic automobiles" have always made me laugh when it comes to performance versus the dollar amount...Being a "gear head" all of my life, I guess I just don't see the point. The new Corvettes are pricey enough, but less than many of the exotics, yet the performance and handling seems to be on par with most. |

The club I ride with (Team ProMotion) had a few track days with cars in the mix. 2 bike groups and a car group. You guys are right, the operating cost for cars is through the roof!And man, watching the cars after he bikes is painful! So Slow! I thought it was gonna suck, but sharing the track with cars was pretty cool....change of pace. |

I really enjoyed the video. If you look at the Ferrari and the Ducati in their respective places in the automotive and motorcycle world it looks like a pretty good match up to me. To end the bike vs. car performance debate you have to pit Moto GP bikes against Formula 1 race cars and the car wins due to more tire contact patch. In 2004 Rossi lapped the Sepang Circuit in 2:01, Schumacher did the same lap in similar conditions in 1:33 which isn't even close. But when you look at the performance to cost ratio the bike obviously walks away. The whole reason I bought my 1125R was to have a vehicle I could ride to work and do track days on without breaking the bank. |

what kinda jag you got? It's an XJR, the one with the big shiny supercharger LOL.. It's going up for sale in the new year, I hardly ever drive it any more, but when I do it just brings such a big grin to my face! It was my dream car when I was a kid and my wife bought it for me for my 40th (5 years ago), it's absolutely astonishing fun! |

I hardly ever drive it any more I bought a Mazda RX-8 when it came to the States in '04. Unfortunately, I bought my first Buell about a year after. Since I owned a more practical vehicle (truck) as my foul weather transport, the RX-8 and Buell fought for attention during the rest of the year. The Buell won hands down and the 8 collected dust until I sold it a few years back. It pains me to think how much I paid per mile driving the 8, but I have to say it's one hell of a sportscar for the buck. THe rotary engine is much like a 600cc sportbike--not much down low but once you get her spinning it rocks and it's smooooth. } |
