All right, between me and my resident motorcycle guru, I've got a pretty good idea of what to do, but it never hurts to get second opinions! I am going to be going to Japan for the better part of the next 9 months (October 17th through July 3rd, with a two week and four week return thrown in there). I am going to be putting both my truck and the Firebolt in 'stasis' as I won't be around to use them. The Blast is just going to get it's fluids changed and the battery disconnected - if I need to get around during the breaks I will be using it as it'll still be insured for road use. What all should I do to them to insure that when I'm ready to break them back out they're ready and willing? Thanks, Bryan |

Crate the bike up and ship it to Japan!!!! No reason to punish the bike! Or you could let your buddy spiderman take care of it since he is without a bike for the moment! Keith |

Bryan, Its much cheaper for you to either crate it up and ship it to me OR fly me up to ride it back to NF. That way you can fly straight here from Japan to pick it up and give me a real good excuse to go back to the US. Just a couple of thoughts. OR just perform a good winter storage on it - change all fluids, top up tank and use fuel conditioner/stabilizer, take the battery out and get it on a tender, I'd get front and rear stands to get the weight off the tires, when I store the S1 for the winter I usually move it around about once a week in the garage. |

Storage: 1) Fuel System. 2 Methods. (A) Drain tank. Drain fuel lines and injectors too. If you forget the lines and injectors, the gas may gum up in there. (B) Fill tank. Use gas stabilizer (most claim to be good for 12 months). Run bike until stabilizer is through fuel lines and injectors (again to make sure these don't gum up) 2) Battery. Remove and put on charger. Make sure someone can occassionally inspect the battery to make sure it hasn't run out of fluid (if applicable). 3) Suspension Tires. It's nice to get the weight off of the suspension and tires, but I always weigh that against the chances of having the bike knocked over if it's on blocks/stands. 4) Corrosion protection. Depends on the humidity in the storage area. You can get one of those huge bags with desicants in it, you can spray the bike with a corrosion protectant, or you can keep it somewhere nice and dry. 5) Insurance. Make sure the bike is insured before you leave. If no one is going to ride it, most insurance companies offer some kind of storage rate. have fun in Japan (you are going to be hip-deep in tang), Paul in MI |
