Every once in a while I get a wierd tank of gas and the hard starting that goes with it. What gas additives do you use to improve a bad situation? |

best thing to do..Is stick to a single gas station & top tier gas http://www.toptiergas.com/retailers.html use a Quality Octane booster if it's necessary. (Message edited by Puredrive on December 19, 2010) |

I choose Chevron over 76 and when the low fuel light comes on the first gas station I see... Oregon's winter gas does not seem as good as summer gas. |

Not personally a big fan of additives, but Lucas does make some good products from what I have heard. |

I personally like to use commercial grade lubricants, I see Lucas offers that too, so maybe I will have to do some research. Lucas has been around for a long time and people seem to stand behind their products, so it might be worth a look. |

Puredrive, that top tier gas link says that any gas must have, among other things, 8-10% ethanol to be considered top tier. Last I checked, ethanol can cause problems with some bike fuel systems, produces less power than non-ethanol gas, and returns worse fuel economy than non-ethanol gas. I'm not sure who truly benefits from using gas from top tier sellers but if it contains ethanol, I don't think it is the end users who are gaining anything. |

Ethanol is mainly used to increase the octane and improve vehicle emissions. I want to say that it's mainly due to Government regulations.. But the MPGs do go down with winter blend. On my bike, I try to just stick to Shell, If Shell is not available Exxon or Chevron. But it can happen that you get a bad tank of gas. It happen to me on my Jeep XJ. Filled up with 87oct and the engine did not like it. Best thing to do, is just drive easy. As soon as I got to 1/2 I filled it up with 93Oct. As far as using Octane booster. I only used the NOS off road brand. Used it on a GTI with a GT30R setup. I was able to get 2psi over 93OCT. With no timing pull. But here is some good reading about Octane Boosters. http://volvospeed.com/Reviews/octane_boosters.html |
