I'm an old timer (56) and looking to jazz up the visual effects of the bike without going to the expense of a wide tire kit that is now on the market for the Buell. My thought was is there any way that the 18" wheels from a V-Rod used for the 240 tire would fit? I can get the wheels for half the price of getting mine modified and then I can buy new tires plus the chain sprocket. What are the issues here (besides handling, which I really am not that concerned about)? Bearings, brake, etc? Any help would be appreciated. |

I would have thought that you would need to have the swingarm widened to get a 240 tire in there ... |

You can get a 240 in an XB w/o swingarm mods so I'd guess you probably can in a 1125 too.. Taylormade (UK) do a 240 wheel for the XB, in theory they could make one for the 1125 too but it's not cheap! http://www.taylormade-wheels.co.uk/products.php?id =1 The offset is about 1/4" at the rear (Message edited by Jules on December 15, 2010) |

Big_mike - the only reason to do this would be for a drag bike. Not for street use. Handling will go to heck with that type of move. A Straight line only idea. |

(besides handling, which I really am not that concerned about) if thats truly the case, then go for it. i wouldnt use vrod wheels i guess, id widen and enlarge a stock xb/1125 wheel, but thats just me. i think the xb/1125 wheels look way better. but its all personal opinion. just like you wanting to put some wide tires on your 1125. its your bike, do what you want. heck thats what i do with mine. dont really care if others like it. although its nice when some do. although i have a hard time destroying one of the best characteristics of a buell. |

We're not mean, Curve Carver, but ya gotta expect some negative comments on a board devoted to a motorcycle that was designed with handling first and foremost and someone ask about a change that will totally screw things up. Besides it's the internet. We're just with 'em. You should hear the abuse I get with a ratted-out Ducati 900SS. |

Funny...I was eyeing a old Honda Valkyrie yesterday...thinking what would the front of my Lightning look like with "that" forks/wheel on it...? A 150 front tire... The front wheel looks REALLY heavy though. Mike |

the 240's will fit in the xb's stock swingarm just fine, heck you can even use the stock belt set up if you want to. i dont remember seeing one done on an 1125. the swingarms are considerably different so dont know if they will or wont fit. |

I'm not positive but pretty sure the 1125 as a whole is skinnier than an xb. the best way to find out i would think is measure how far the belt is from the outer edge of the rim and the distance between the edge of the rim and swing arm and depth from the front of the wheel to the arm and compare. if they are close it should work |

Big_mike - the only reason to do this would be for a drag bike. Not for street use. actually drag folks dont really do that either, common misconception that you need a really wide wheel and tire for dragging, just not so. There are guys running in the 6s at over 200mph in the 1/4 on stock sized wheels and DOT approved tires. No wheelie bars, headlight and taillight in place and working. Some people just like a certain look, cant fault the guy for having his own opinion. |

Hmmm Just looked at Pete's project at GrandStand, not much chicken strip on HIS 240... looks pretty good to me. it doesnt take any where near as much lean to reach the edge of the bigger tires. you should see what the last bike i built with a 360 rear on it looked like. when it was sitting straight up and down i doubt there was an inch between the ground and the outer edge of the tread. on the kickstand it was damn near touching. |

Try getting rid of the chicken strips on a 120 or smaller. You have to be getting MotoGP sort of lean angles. Big tires make it pretty easy because of the width ratio. However, the real problem is that wide tires just take a huge amount of effort to lean. It is a simple matter of leverage - you have to lift more of the bike on wide tires than you do with skinnier ones. (Message edited by RatsMC on December 17, 2010) |
