Would be great to have a list of options to consider when ordering the race ecm. Seems like more and more are being introduced . I'll start-with those I can think of. 1. Pipe brand 2. engine braking 3. display - temp or 'cold flashing' 4. cold start enrichment 5. idle up on clutch I'm sure there are more..... |

Good thread topic since I'm going to order an EB r ECM in the next few days. |

Well, if its me I hate to rely on a computer to tell me its "cold". Let me know the actual temp and I will take care of the rest. The rest of the ideas mentioned are misconstreud because of internet ie "lowest common denominator" input. The guys at Erik Buell Racing know what they are doing. There is REALLY a reason they set up their ECM's the way they do, and for the rest of the inexperienced they need to call Erik Buell Racing first before they start on the complaints! I did call them, listened to the explanation as to why, and have been very happy with the results. Maybe people should do their own homework???? Ya think?? -Tutt |

Email tech@ebracing.com Ask your questions. Or, just ask "what options do I have for a 200X 1125?". Spell out any mods on the bike - pipe, intake, whatever. The more accurate (and CONCISE) you are, the better an answer you will get. Ye shall receive answers (pretty darned quickly, too!). |

Tutt - how DARE you?? Suggesting people take responsibility for their own actions....BLASPHEMY. People doing their own homework...an idea like that, posted on the INTERNET (land of "it ain't MY fault!")...you better lock your door!

The rest of the ideas mentioned are misconstreud because of internet I'm not flaming... ummm actually now that I type that I suspect I should have said something like "I am not going to flame you" but I do respectfully disagree.. The other options are "handy" if you want to change a few parameters just to get the bike set up the way you want it... Bearing in mind the Erik Buell Racing ECM is a "race" ECM and some people want to ride it on the street.. The only option I asked for was the slightly lower idle speed (bought mine before pipe specific ones were available for the Barker) but I think having some choice is a good thing.. I don't think anyone was complaining (were they?) just looking at the available options. I believe for the non-US based peeps out there you can also specify whether the sidestand cutout still works. The engine braking option is one to consider too - dependant on how you ride and WHERE you ride... I am used to the Erik Buell Racing "stock" setting now but it felt "different" when I first got it. Maybe people should do their own homework???? I think that was the intent of the thread (doing homework) - enough people have bough the ECMs already to compile a list of options, and enough people like yourself have called Erik Buell Racing to get an expalantion of why things were set up in a certain way, if that information is shared properly it might negate the need for another potential customer to call Erik Buell Racing to get the info BEFORE ordering... Heck, you know those guys are busy! Again - no "flame" intended.. just an honest disagreement |

I knew all the options when I ordered mine, but then just chose to take it as already programmed, off-the-shelf. To say it's been great would be an understatement! I'm actually surprised that E B R doesn't charge more to tweak them. Most places would do $250 off the shelf, add $x for custom changes. Either way, it's a steal! certainly NOT a complaint here- I haven't ordered mine yet. Homework? yea that is what I would call talking with fellow Buellers so I (we) can make an educated purchase. Or, 8000 owners could each pull someone away from working on the 1190rs to ask the same questions. My intent was simply to educate myself and others before making the purchase, to share knowledge on a BUELL ENTHUSIAST site. Sorry if some took that as a complaint. |

Ordered mine as Erik Buell Racing sees fit for my pipe and bike. Love it. Had to the put the stock ecm back on for some warranty work recently. Makes me appreciate the Erik Buell Racing ecm even more. |

I believe the factory ecm manages the electrical system better than the e b r ecm. I asked for the OEM Voltage Regulator controls in print, it never happened.... Ask for OEM VR controls! |

Well since the ebr ecm is a RACE ecm, i would imagine that they don't have to worry about the low rpm problem that many of us have on our electrical systems. |

I for one love the idea of ditching the flashing cold indicator. Also I have always been confused by the default layout. 1: Gear + AT 2: Batt + CT ?? How bout... 1: Kill the flashing cold on start 2: Initial display, Gear + CT 3: Batt + AT as the next "menu" Everything else is perfect. |

I just emailed the EB R tech address, so I'll post the reply once I get one. |

I got a reply yesterday afternoon from Michael at EB R. He stated the following: 1. Pipe brand -- obviously an available option 2. engine braking -- confirmed as an option, apparently the race ECMs have less engine braking than the stock ECM 3. display - temp or 'cold flashing' -- said the ECMs are configured by default to display the temp, not flash "cold" 4. cold start enrichment -- no mention, so I asked him to clarify 5. idle up on clutch -- he said that this is disabled in the ECMs configured for aftermarket exhausts--which seems to imply that it may still be enabled in the ECMs configured for the stock exhaust He did say that the ECMs which are configured for the stock exhaust are based on a modified calibration of the factory tune. The ECMs that are configured for the aftermarket exhausts are based on their DSB race calibration for their full exhaust. Michael also said that engine braking is the only option that very many people ask to have changed and that most people are happy with the ECMs in their default configuration. I sent Michael a reply asking about the "cold start enrichment" that Bott mentioned and also asked him for his thoughts about changing the default idle RPM. |

I just got my ECM last week and had them modify the Engine braking. I told them what I use the bike for(Mostly street and occasional track duty as my B bike). They set it somewhere between stock and race. |

To adjust the engine braking, they change the idle? Does anyone know how that works? Is it more idle=more engine braking? |

'Idle Air Control': BTDT, if you like 2 stroke throttle off dieseling ebr stock is for you. If you want throttle off decelleration you have to ask ebr for it. |

I'd actually like MORE engine braking than stock. Other than that, the default Barker configuration will do it for me. I'm going to wait a day or two to order in case Michael replies. |

in case Michael replies. No if. Just when. I have no doubt you'll hear from him, or from someone. And my *guess* on the coldstart enrichment is a chance for them to combat the "don't run it short distances or you'll foul a plug" that's the achilles' heel of OEM tunes. But that's just a guess. |
