2009 1125cr, build date: 0109, 6500 miles. The battery light started coming on at idle. Then a couple days later it barely started and the voltage slowly dropped from 12.1 eventually down to 10.7 as I, literally, rolled into the dealership's parking lot. After two days at the dealer, they are still "diagnosing" the problem. I'll keep you posted. (Message edited by pwillikers on December 04, 2010) |

Mine did the same thing and they only replaced the battery. Now it barely keeps the battery charged. I expect this battery to last 500 miles, maybe. |

I would normally think regulator, but could it be another stator problem? |

My CR history: harness at 39 miles, 1st stator at 2200 miles, now at 7500 miles Erik Buell Racing ECM.... After a nice 15 mile freeway ride at 70mph I exited and hit the surface streets. Within 10 minutes the battery light came on. I toggled and saw 11.1. I left the display at voltage and it also came on at 12.2, and 12.0. It started running rough and I accidentally killed it. When I tried to restart the first 1/10th of a second a 'system voltage' message on the display and then it went dark. I wheeled off the street and waited in quiet desperation for a moment or two. With the battery light on it restarted. TYJ! I got the S1 (96Kmi) out of mothballs. I did the annual Portland Shriners Childrens Hospital Christmas toy run/motorcycle parade this year with Old Reliable. |

I got battery light/check engine light again. for awhile I saw 14+ volts going 70mph with a coolant temp of 166, but on the way back it was showing 12.6 and no higher, then battery light/engine light at 12.1 volts. |

Bueller4ever, That's EXACTLY the behavior I saw just prior to failure. Don't venture to far from home. For the last week it ran, I left the trailer hooked up to my tow vehicle and asked my wife to keep her cell phone handy. Luckily I didn't need it - but just barely. |

Not sure if I want to bother taking it back to the dealer. Last time they didn't even check the stator output, just gave me a new battery and fuel pump. code p0562 was set, which is system voltage. If you google that code, you'll find all kinds of harley owners with premature stator failure, not just buells. So the question is, do I want to get another chinese stator for free and take 6weeks or more(2 weeks to diagnose it and 4 weeks to order parts) to fix it or just do it myself with a rewound stator in 2 weeks. Can we get an update on the guy with a rewound stator? How many miles now? My bike is weird, it only seems to charge the battery when it's cold, once it gets to operating temp, then it's barely making enough juice to keep it running. The only thing keeping this bike running is my battery tender. |

I think I found the answer. We should all disconnect our stators and affix a bunch of these (see link) to our bikes. http://www.buygreen.com/hyminibasicpackage.aspx

Is there an aftermarket stator? Or can one be sourced from another bike model? Always another way, gotta be. Some of these places don't show Buell in their inventory but they rebuild/overbuild stock units. http://www.accel-motorcycle.com/ProductsListByMinI D.aspx?minID=6776&majID=675&selection=&minselectio n=21 http://www.ricksmotorsportelectrics.com/stators.ph p http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/3/14/141/1651 6/DPITEM/Cruiser-Motorcycle-Charging-Systems-Accel -Alternator-Stator.aspx |

BadWeb's own ultimo_justin has used Rick's (if I remember right) and was quite satisfied. |

Milt - As I recall ultimo_justin was asked for his experience, he had not been using his bike very much so road testing was minimal.... (Message edited by dannybuell on December 06, 2010) |

UPDATE: I just spoke to the HD dealer, Central Texas Harley Davidson. They replaced the stator, added the harness "upgrade" and gave it a good washing - all under warranty. Total time at the dealer, four working days. I certainly can't complain about the service. This was fast. |

UPDATE II: I just retrieved the bike from the dealer. It's all sparkly clean. According to an unnamed dealership employee, they have pre-ordered stators so they'll have them on hand because they "are seeing quite a few of these failures". He also stated that none that have had coincident stator replacement and harness upgrade have had subsequent failures. One can only hope. |

Maybe I was just hoping Justin had solved the problem. Pwill - You've found a good dealer worthy of support. A very rare thing, indeed. |

haven't read any posts here. my 08 25R is getting a complete electrical overhaul. symptoms: battery light @ idle, speedo spikes at stoplights, fuel not being injected properly, gas light comes on when tank is full. and finally bike died on me twice during acceleration, once while trying to merge onto highway. you heard of 0-60? well i went from about 70-0 in about 3 secs. the other time was going uphill @ 45mphs. fffffffffffaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrtttttttttt. the last time. at about 15 mph's i jumped off bike just to push is and make it to the next turn so i wouldn't get squashed by cars behind me. I love my Buell. |
