I've got Bike-itis and am in the process of selling my 2000 Triumph Sprint ST, the Ulysses have always appealed to me and the prices right now seem to be almost too good to be true. I'm thinking of picking up a '06 or '07 xb12x or xt , I'd like to find one with the bags. Can anyone thats made a similar transition comment on what I should expect in terms of ride, performance and comfort? I've also got a KLR650 for my winter bike is the Uly similar in height? I've heard that maintenance is a breeze on these any issues between different years. Thanks for the info first post for me!! |

Suncoast: WELCOME, hope that you can find a good Uly out there to purchase. I have an '06 XB12X and it is a dream. Rides extremely smooth because of the exceptional long suspension travel. Gets about 53 mpg at 60 mph and handles way above what most riders will ever be able to handle. Power at the lower end is very deep and the bike has no problem doing wheelies with just the throttle and a couple grand on the tach. This is good for picking up the nose over small logs and curbing. The underslung muffler is a great bash plate and takes to deep water very well. The bike will trackday very well but certainly not a GXR. You can get some wicked lean angles on it and if you get good, lose your buds on the back roads (although I prefer all curves being on a track). Maintenance, by the book and very little at that. Battery, air, oil, tire check, clean filters and you are always good to go. The 06 was very tall but man does it handle. The only thing is you might want to rotate the handle bars up a little and grind down the fork stops for a smaller turn radius for slow and parking lot handling. For two up riding, I am 6-3 and wife at 6-1 and quite comfortable. A heat shield was fashioned for the right of the seat and I lengthened the drop of the rear pegs for her (39" inseem on her). Lets us know what works out. |

The prices are too good believe, that is for sure. They are an amazing bike for what they are going for these days. The KLR (a great bike, don't get me wrong) will be collecting a lot of dust... |

I totally agree... I was riding an Electraglide for almost 8 years... I live on a dirt road, so my use of the bike was limited to good road conditions and no threat of weather turning the road to mud with rain, or dust with lack thereof. I bought my '08 Uly 6 weeks ago, and have only driven my truck to work 2 times since, almost 2400 miles on the Uly... love it!!! I will get another bagger..... when I can afford a second bike, the Uly is not going anywhere!! Side note: got a pic of that fashioned heat shield? |
