I could use some advice but I'll try to keep this short.... Took my 08 1125R to the dealer beginning of August for 3 issues 1.) Clutch Weep 2.)Running Hot, I suggested the frame insulation since they had never heard of this issue 3.) random CEL, low fuel light... check to see if it is IC or something else. It took them 3 months to get the clutch and insulation parts and they came and trailered the bike to the shop since it was unridable (clutch was leaking bad and bled out). The bike has been there a month now and every time I call I get a different story... Eg: "clutch is done, dropping motor to do the frame"... or "got the frame done, just have to do the clutch"... or the other day I got "everything is done, just waiting for a part we ordered so we can lift the motor back in".... BUT he couldn't tell me what part that is!!! Sorry for the rant... but I feel like I'm being stroked and I'm getting really pissed. I'm going to go there tomorrow but hopefully I can keep my cool... any suggestions on a course of action? |

It's winter time, much better than summer time when having it in the shop. ask him what part is holding things up? keep a record of events and answers. |

It's been down for 4 months and I really want to RIDE it home before the western NY winter really kicks in... I don't trust them and I will not be happy if it has to be trailered home and sit for 4-5 months without a test ride! I think if it's in one piece tomorrow i'll take it no matter what they've finished... this much time for minor fixes is not acceptable and they have flat out lied to me at least a couple times. |

when you go there ask for a copy of the work order, go over all of the parts with the service writer and ask what ones were taking so long to get in and why |

Long past time to ask/demand the warranty is extended by the laid up time! as many have said, take notes of what you are told. |

Never went to the dealer the other day... but they actually called me today for the first time since they ordered the parts AND picked the bike up! The good news is that the work is (supposedly) 2/3 done... and they determined that I need a new instrument cluster, which is great except that it will at least be there another couple weeks. Everytime I called them I asked I they checked that out yet, if they had... they could have ordered it 3 weeks ago! |

Why does it need to stay at the dealer's, is it unrideable? You can ride it with the old parts fitted while they p1ss about getting the replacements.. I've been waiting 6 months for an O2 sensor but the bike is perfectly rideable whilst waiting. OK so the clutch kit is different when it's that bad but otherwise the bike should only be there ONCE the parts have arrived. I keep seeing posts like this on here and I just don't understand why someone would just leave their bike at the dealership and be completely in their hands. I'm lucky - my dealer allows me to diagnose the faults myself (where I can) and just accepts my word to order the parts... He then calls me when they are in and gives me a loaner for the duration of the repair work. I have a spare clutch weep kit, spare sidestand spring, spare blinkers etc in the garage so I can just get him to fit them and then he'll backorder replacements for me to restock. I also need a new IC, mine has the inaccurate LFL warning when cold, I'll get the dealer to order that for me when I drop mine in for the O2 sensor, but I'll definately ride the bike home and wait for the part.. In lots of instances these things are issues that the owner can mitigate/reduce the impact of. The clutch kit is the kicker for you - have you told them to order two (one for this repair and one as a spare for next time)... Even if (finger's crossed) you never use it that'll be a cheap insurance policy against any loss of riding time next summer.. |

Jules, My 09R has a problem with inaccurate LFL warning when cold, is it a known fault requiring the IC to be replaced as a fix ? Cheers Steve. |

Yes... there are two versions of the fault, one is related to the fuel pump/sender unit and the other is the IC. It's an issue due to the fact that the fuel level is actual calculated using the temperature of the fuel in the tank, some IC's have issues with reading fuel level at low temperature as the "range" is too narrow to compensate for low ambient temperatures.. (that's the issue i have LOL) |

They did let me keep the bike until they got the parts... except for the cluster which had to be tested before they would order one. The big hangup was that after they had the bike they found out the clutch kit was incomplete. It sounds likeyou are lucky and have a decent dealer... at least with my S3 I have no warranty so I just order the parts elswhere and do the work. I'm sure that I am up to well over a grand in parts and i'm not about to pay for them when the dealer should. |

Many thanks for the information, I will ask about it when I call in the dealer next. Cheers Steve. |

My bike was barely ridable, fuel pump issues, the real problems happened when they flashed the ECU... the bike wouldn't start then... several ECU's and clusters later the bike ran, fix various other warranty issues, but the cluster was still messed up. good thing is they should have gotten a new cluster yesterday... we will see what happens next. |

I was actually shocked they ordered me a new cluster, according to the info I had seen my bike was not in the build date range that was affected... now i'll have a gear indicator ii ever get it back. |

Tbolt98 - my 09 has the issue so I am pretty sure it wasn't resolved anytime during the MY 08 run It's a shame they needed to test the cluster before ordering a new one, I just rode in one cold morning and showed them the warning light and took the filler cap off to show half a tank of fuel and they accepted it.. But I do have to say I am really pleased with my dealer, they're significantly better than seems normal for a HD dealer, i consider myself really lucky.. |

when i made an appointment to take the 2008 in for the initial 620 mile (1KM) service, Hal's told me they needed to put in in the queue for 10 days! That was in June. Needless to say, they did not do that with me. Rode it until the appt date. There is nothing worse than a dealer that refuses to communicate/relate with you. |
