I am in a pinch and need a new battery today. If I had the time I would go to Austin to my nearest buell dealer but I don't have time so can I get one from a harley only dealer, non-harley dealer, autozone, walmart? I am not concerned about brand or how long it will last me(as long as it will last the next 5 days at least.) I just need a battery I can throw in there to get me were I have to be tomorrow. also a part number would be for what ever brand or place you recomend. | ||

Just go Wal-mart or Autozone. We have had people on here that have had horrible luck with either, and some have had them for years. If you get it from Wal-mart, you will have very little trouble exchanging it if it fails. For 5 days, it's your cheapest warranty. | ||

Interstate battery has an AGM battery that works a treat. Looks just like the stock one. | ||

The Harley battery is a good battery, cost about the same as the Autozone one, and fits just a little bit better. Bring your old battery with you to make sure you have the right one, if you can. After many years of resisting them, I finally realized that nothing is more important for a motorcycle battery than keeping it on a Battery Tender type maintenance trickle charger. The battery and charging systems on all motorcycle are a bit marginal: the batteries are too small, and the charging systems undersized. This is because of the importance of saving weight, ( and perhaps, money) . Motorcycle batteries today are not much larger than they where back in the day before electric starting and electronic ignition, when batteries only had to keep the headlight glowing at stop lights. Thus motorcycle batteries are rarely fully charged, as the last five or ten percent of the battery which is the most important part, almost never gets charged. If you doubt this just measure the voltage on your motorcycle battery before you start it. You are unlikely to read 12.7 volts, which is the 100% charge state. More likely you will read something like 12.2 volts. You might be surprised to discover that this indicates a 50% charge state. Many people are surprised to discover that 12 volts on a 12 volt battery equals about a 24% charge. Bottom line: while you are buying a new battery, pick up a Battery Tender or such like. They are only about $35 and worth twice that in prolonging battery life and assuring easy starting no matter what the weather. Just my .02¢ | ||

well last night I went and got an everstart from wally world so today when I get off of work I will finish putting my bike back togeather and she will once again be alive... As many of you may remember my bike was down due to a bad wheel bearing so last night from about 7:30 till 12:30 I was fighting with an outer race. I went threw two dremels (one quit working so I had to take it back) 3 chissles and a hammer to get that sucker off. | ||

I had a Deka, the cables do not bolt on correctly, it looked just like the ETX20L in the link above except the + and - are reversed from that picture (plus on the left side terminals facing you). The terminal on the battery did not stick out flush with the battery case so I needed to make a lead wedge to put in to fill the gap, so I do not recommend that battery. The one I got from the Harley dealer was more money but the cables bolt up snugly the correct way and so far several months in it seems to be a decent battery. | ||

Since the bearing took that much effort, it is possible that you may now need a new wheel. If the new one goes in easily you are probably screwed. | ||

I went on just the same as the other one did did by having to use a bearing installer and a hammer. the wheel is just fine as I stated in my topic about my bearing going out. it is just not very easy to pull out an outer race by its self. | ||

man I went to batteries plus and got one with a 2 year warranty for a bit less than the HD one and if (when) it poops out on me I can get a new one free of charge (no pun intended) | ||

The XB's must have a different setup than the earlier tubers and solid mount sportsters. The Deka I bought came with copper spacers to make the cables flush with the side mount posts. I am able to fit the battery on my 02 Sporty and 99 X1 with no problems. It sat face down in my X1 and face out in my sporty. YMMV. | ||

Whatever you do, get an AGM (Absorbed Glass Matt) maintenance free type battery rather than a wet cell. They work better and last longer. And a Battery Tender. We stock the Drag Specialties AGM Batteries, which I suspect are re-branded Yuasa's, but don't know that for sure. I try to keep one (or two, max) on the shelf at all times, and hit them with a full charge the day they arrive at the store, and again the day I ship it, right up until ship time. I don't keep a bunch around, no use using their life up on MY shelf. Al brings up a seldom mentioned point...you should NEVER take a new battery and subject it to a load until it has been fully charged first....batteries DO NOT come charged. | ||

+1 on Al's American Sport Bike and Tender Jr. And Jr comes with a pigtail which makes it easy to hook up the tender after every ride. | ||

The problem with all the battery teneder digestions is I live on a second story appartment and really have no way to use one unless they make one that plugs to a car lighter plugged but then again that would be kinda counter productive. | ||

I may be a little late here, but stick with a gel battery. In the firebolt, your battery doesn't sit upright. When I bought mine, the previous owner threw in a battery which was not gel. Due to it's mounting position, it leaks from the vent during charging (that includes riding time) and ran down the swingarm. It's a nasty blemish, and nobody wants that. Someone will probably reply and tell me they've had no problems with their walmart battery. Congrats to him/her! I just feel you're better off with a higher quality of battery. | ||

I don't know much a gel battery but it has to be a factory sealed battery for the XB bikes. Yes the unsealed cheaper types will leak. I suppose a cheaper battery will work as long as you don't mind acid leaking on the bike. | ||

well so far this battery that I bought after putting up this post has been great to me compared to the previous battery that WAS a harley battery. I even left stupid one click past lock function on the key for a whole day and the bike started right up afterwards. the box says it wont leak because it is an AGM battery though I do not know if that is true or not.
