OMG. I went on a very casual ride last weekend with a friend of mine I rode with for many years in the past. He was under the impression his Harley had a massive engine, and thus made tons of torque and should have no problem hanging with my 1125R. I had no intentions of racing him. We were just going to ride casually from point A to point B. On the way home, he got a wild hair. He launched it from a stop at a traffic light. I could tell he was on it only from the loud noise it was making from his nearly straight pipes. I was in first gear when I quickly rolled into it and the front wheel came up. I shifted to second, and did it again. After I got the wheel to stay on the ground, I went through a few gears wide open. When I decided I did not want to go any faster, I closed the throttle and checked the mirrors to see where he was. He was WAAAAYYYYYY behind me. I asked if he was just playing, and he said he was giving it all he had. He then got the idea to try me in a top gear roll on. We got going down the road at low freeway speed, and rolled into the throttles. Even with my engine practically bogging down in top gear at low RPM, I walked away from him. He had to downshift four times to keep up, and he only stayed with me for a second or two before I flew away. Too funny. |

even better when you have to wait for your friend on his 08 CBR1000 after every set of corners.... especially when you happen to be riding your 03 XB9S.... |

hahaha i raced a goldwing once....that was FUN! i was REALLY suprised when he started hangin with me up to about 120mph then i had my fun and wacked it open...then i let off and he caught me a few miles away...i only slowed down becuase of the cop, i warned him and he thanked me lol my dad has an 07' street glide with a stage one 96in...and it runs surprisingly well for what it is and cruses at 100mph with that 6 speed like a caddy...nice bike all in all but not for me Jake |

I had a Glide with the Screaming Eagle kit and the Baker 6 speed. For a 800 lbs bike it is quick but in comparison to a lighter bike like the R, there is no comparison! The glide does cruise really well though. |

I had a co-worker at my last job that said he could "do wheelies at 70mph" on his HD Whatchama Glide with a Screaming Eagle Kit. I kept hitin' him up to go for a ride but he never would. |

Guy I work with just got a 1200 Sportster, and figured that since his was a v-twin, and 75 more CI than mine, his was faster. Now he knows better. Harleys are cute when they try to go fast.... R |

It always amazes me that people think HDs are fast. They were never meant to be. Then they get mad when they realize theyre not fast.. Just love your bike for what it is I say. I have a truck that's great for hauling things but it aint a vette.. even with da Hemi.. |

Harley people somehow get the idea into their heads that HD makes the best motorcycles in the world. It's a strange, ignorant phenomenon, but holy cow is it pervasive and persistent. |

'Fast' Harleys are only fast compared to stock Harleys. I am forced to remind my brother of this every so often. |

Because HD makes the Destroyer, which in the quarter mile, IS the fastest production bike. However, my KLR650, making 33 hp and 33 ft/lbs of torque kills smaller hds. AND its a single |

An 1125 vs 1130 V-Rod race would be interesting. The 1125has a couple hundred pounds advantage, and about 20 more RWHP. And 6 speeds vs 5, not that you'd ever get out of third outside of a recetrack. Don't ever try a V-Rod with a Turbo, though. Consistant 160HP at the rear wheel. |

1125 by a full second -with same rider on both bikes, showroom stock. Vrod is just too much heavier and down on hp to boot. Buell low 11s - high 10's Vrod high 11s - low 12s |

bott- actually its more like mid 10's to low 11's for 1125's STOCK that is....high 9's can be done with barley any mods and the right rider...look at LBQ Jake |

Yea, I'm talking about average size and skilled riders- LBQ is an awesome and experienced racer, and very light. The times I gave are what the average 200 lb street rider are gonna see , on a showroom stock bike. |

I played with a guy on a street glide once, paced him for about 5 miles at 95-100. Those things are getting better, not a single part fell off. |

You can get some surprisingly good numbers out of a modified Harley. My 2009 Street Bob is in the shop for the winter getting a performance top-end, 103 CI and should yield about 113 HP and 117 lbs of torque based upon this combination in another HD. The bike is rather light for a Harley (660 lbs wet on a truck scale). What slows Harleys down is the heavy crank and flywheels. They just don't rev fast at all. But the heavy reciprocating mass does act like sort of a traction control on damp roads. How many times have you guys broke traction with an 1125 or 1200 air-cooled on a damp road with the power on? These bikes rev fast and make a lot of torque for their weight! I'm not suggesting that a modified Harley is any kind of match for a Buell in power to weight, but they can run pretty good! -Tutt |

my dad and i used to mess around. Him on his 00 Wide Glide with a stage one and me on my 04 XB12S with Nallin Stg 3 heads, Use Force exhaust, open air box, Directlink tuner. ay about 50mph he would pull up and gas it alittle making his bike jump forward, Id drop mine downn to 3rd gear give him a rev with the clutch pulled in. Then i would go WOT. Levem in the dust with his ears ringing from the force pipe. |

The problem is two-fold. First, most H-D riders are inexperienced and the dealer staff will fill them full of utter nonsense. I cannot believe what I hear when I am at the dealer. It literally sounds like the sales guys are pulling it out of their ass, just making sh!t up. The other part of the problem is that the H-D rider community exists in a bubble and have little exposure to anything else on the road. Since most other riders ignore H-D as barely being motorcycles, the separation is maintained. |

A couple week ago, I was at a red light getting ready to turn on to the highway. I was behind a group of about 8 HDs. With all their noise they probably had no idea I was there. When they got to the entrance ramp they started racing each other WOT(guessing from all the noise). I pulled alongside the first HD, paused for a second and then went WOT in 3rd for a second or 2. I would have loved to see their faces as I gapped them by a few hundred feet. I slowed back down to 65 (don't usually ride that fast on the hwy). I thought they would catch up or pass me...they didn't |

tpoppa - maybe they were just doing the speed limit and thats why they never caught you (since you exceeded the speedlimit and accelerated a more rapid pace than them) |

Watched a highly modded V_Rod (Bad_Rod)do an 8.3 sec Quarter mile at Kansas City (KCIR) a few years back. The owner then went on a 100 mile ride with the rest of us. I suspect no 1125 Buell could match that, no matter how highly modded. |

The long stroke of the V-Rod motor means that in order to produce as much power and the Rotax has stock, you have to push it to its limits. The extra weight of the V-Rod means you have to push it even harder. The only advantage the V-Rod has is wheelbase. I'm willing to bet that an 1125 could get to 8.3 with a less highly tuned (read less fragile) motor than the one you saw. This isn't meant to be a "defense of the Buell" reply just pointing out details as I see them. |
