This morning I put in an order to Erik Buell Racing for some take off parts for my 1125CR. This was awesome because most of the parts they quoted were about 1/2 the price of new parts through HD.

And the talk about the new 1190RS has me thinking about the future and the possibility of getting new parts through Erik Buell Racing rather than HD.
It would be cool to hear from an Anon about this.
I wonder how much of the new bikes will be usable on the 1125 Buell platform? I know there will be some significant changes but we buellers are a resourceful bunch and willing to make modifications to make our bikes our own.
Will things like 1190 heads, jugs, pistons, ect be available for purchase through Erik Buell Racing?
What about the common problem parts on the 09-10 1125's like the stators and clutch pistons and o-rings?
If Erik Buell Racing is making 1190RS bikes for sale on the road, even in limited quantities, they must be able to supply new replacement parts. I feel that its way more likely those problems on the 1125 will be addressed on the 1190 and future Erik Buell Racing bikes whereas HD will continue to throw replacement parts at the problem until warranties run out and they are no longer responsible. (I’m sure HD has engineers that would love to solve these problems but I see the HD bean counters looking for the cheapest way out of the problem rather than the right way.)

I've had some thoughts about selling my CR even though I just bought it. The realization that I don't really need a bike this powerful even on the track and concerns about stator issues and availability of parts through HD all added to my doubts.

But the thought that in the future if I need something for my bike I can simply call up one of the guys at Erik Buell Racing and get what I need is making me think that I need to hold on to my 1125.

I have wanted that Erik Buell Racing 1190 subframe since I first saw it on the Barracuda 2. I have yet to figure out how to acquire one.

Parts availability, yeah, they'll probably have something, although it will most likely be limited.
1190 kits, mmmmmm, yeaaaaah! I think it will be a good possibility.
Stators are available from them right now. Clutch parts, email and ask for the kit, they might have it, maybe not.

as i understand it (read it somewhere), in order to run AMA, Erik Buell Racing needs to make 50 street-legal bikes of same caliber.

i would imagine, unlike HD, parts will be ordered as lean production releases against the PO. Although, right now and probably into the near term, HD appears to be in the same boat. (as in not selling bikes)

Did you try emailing them? sales@ebracing

You would be surprised what the have and don't have.

My understanding is that all you mentioned is available right now.

Erik Buell Racing does have some of the common issue stuff like the stators available. If there is something specific you want, just shoot them an email.

http://www.roadracingworld.com/news/article/?artic le=37360

There were 3 1125 rr models built.

http://admin.amaproracing.com/assets/asb_Motorcycl e_Homologation_Form.pdf

That form didn't say anything about 50 bikes being required. Where did that number come from?

Froggy,
You're right, they do have a lot of stuff available that isn't on the website. I emailed them to see if they had a left side radiator and mentioned the other damage to my bike. Turns out they had everything but the pod cover!

I guess my point is that I've been looking at Erik Buell Racing as a source for race parts and limited take-off parts. However, since they will be making new bikes they should be a good source for new parts too. Once my bike is out of warranty, in less than a year, they'll be the first place I go for any replacement parts.

Where did you find the 50?

I think one legal motorcycle sold at a dealer would do the trick.

"There must be sufficient quantity available
such that any AMA Pro Racing licensed competitor wanting to buy one for racing
purposes can do so in a timely fashion."

I think that would mean you'd simply have to be able to produce them. I would imagine that as long as you had a few for sale and the means to produce more fairly quickly you'd be good to go.

Back in the VR1000 days it was said to be 50 when HD had them approved for road use in Poland.

with no basis other than water cooler talk that 50 number has been bounced around a lot. but as shown in the dox there is no exact number. I'd imagine that is a subjective thing though to keep someone from cooking something up in their back yard(protecting the big boys) but allowing a smaller real builder such as Erik to still compete.

That was accurate. . . . then.

I suspect that satisfactorily securing the myriad of approvals necessary to assign a VIN is a sufficient exhibit of capacity and intent to sell publicly.

Court I dont think it was even 50 back then was it? John Britten did it in the early 90's with just one bike and eventually made 10 V1000's. Everybody should watch "1 Mans Dream" at least once in their life, Erik kinda reminds me of John.

Well lets think this one out. How many 2010 1125r models were made? That might be the total needed. I heard somewhere between 25-50 somewhere.

To add a bit more...

that 50 number also stated something about having a two-year window in which AMA rules are met to allow spec'd bike(s) to compete.

Court: i read alot and retain alot but old age is creeping up on me. sorry about not remembering where i read it.

The only series the Britten was allowed to run in was the twins in the U.S. He didn't make enough to run superbike according to the rules back then.

The "50" was a number that was in effect when Erik and The Elves built the RR-1000.

Britten built a sum total of 12 bikes (yes, I am aware of the two numbering systems and concede without contention to the "depends on how you count" argument) over the course of his short career. None were ever near street legal.

Rhard has it correct. Superbike required 50 street legal bikes while the BOTT would allow a flat out race bike. In fact the Lucifer's Hammer II bike was the one of the first RR 1000 Buells produced and, while the whole idea of making 50 to be legal for AMA Superbike was in Erik's mind, the actual bike did not have a VIN and was in no way street legal. The RR 1000 show bike produce right around the same time was street legal BUT since none had been sold it would be tough to argue that LH was a street bike.

Court where are the 2 u speak of?

According to BMC only 10 were built? Just reading from their website and I have been a follower for awhile now since seeing two of the five "American bikes".

Not looking for a flame Court just a question.

I think the take off stators with covers are for 2008 models, not 2009 and 2010.
